Stearman: Big Fight for Places
Stearman: Big Fight for Places
Friday, 29th Jul 2011 12:34

Town target Richard Stearman admits he’ll have a fight on his hands to get in the Wolves side, but says he’s keen to take on the challenge. The 23-year-old is likely to be in action for the Premier League side at some stage of Saturday’s pre-season friendly against the Blues at Portman Road (KO 3pm).

The central defender or right-back said: “It’s going to be a big fight for the shirts at the start of the season and, indeed, throughout the campaign.

“We’ve got great strength in depth there now which can only drive us all on to perform better and try to get in the team. Hopefully, I can perform well and manage to take one of those shirts.”

TWTD reported that the Blues had made an enquiry to Mick McCarthy’s club regarding the former Leicester City man on Thursday.

I like Fatboy's suggestion. Play them off the park and let him see the potential. Can't see much of a future with M. Mc C. and Wolves to be honest. Could be a yellowy descent into the Championship all round the season after next.

Sign up Even Hovland from Norwegian side, Sogndal FC! Quick, strond, young and hungry, good tackling and the most important, he's a CB!!

If he's going to come to town he won't be in the squad.

If he is in the squad I reckon he won't come :(

Maybe we try for a 6 month loan to begin with? We can see if he's any good and he can see if he likes it here?

Why would Wolves let him go? He's probably their third choice CB so we have no chance.... bit of a non-starter this one.

Or we could get Knightsy who plays centre half for the Old Times on a sunday morning. He may not be on some computer game but he'll sign for a fiver a week and a couple of beers after the game!

The original story said that we had made an enquiry regarding Stearman; presumably as to his availability. Clearly the answer wasn't an immediate "he's not available", or this would have been reported at the same time.

More likely is that Wolves are considering whether he is required and may even have spoken to the player about where he is in their plans and the option of going out on loan, say. I can't see Wolves letting him leave on a permanent deal, but a loan deal similar to the Stockdale one would possibly suit both clubs.

If you all remember Tore Andre Flo and Ole Gunnar Solksjær. They have said that he will develop into a very good player in the future! He may worth a look.

Instead of fighting for Wolves, come here instead :)

Seen him lots and he's another Bruce - fouls and missed passes galore. Next please! Nice though to hear of a potential young foreign (i.e. Good value) signing for once but just a shame that the management seems obsessed with overpriced 'honest' British 'talent' instead.

Buy Troy Brown and Tom Eastman! We need cover at the back and these 2 players have excellent potential and play for RUBBISH FOOTBALL TEAMS

Another non story, he is unlikely to leave Wolves and if he did it will be to another team in the same area, probably West Brom or Birmingham, either way it will not be Ipswich, sadly.
