Hourihane Joining Plymouth Friday, 29th Jul 2011 19:47
Midfielder Conor Hourihane is joining Plymouth on a free transfer, having been on trial with the Pilgrims for the last week. On Wednesday, the 20-year-old, who is signing a two-year deal, scored the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Truro City at Home Park.
The Republic of Ireland U21 international, who failed to make a senior appearance while at Portman Road, recently signed a six-month deal with the Blues, having followed former boss Roy Keane from Sunderland a year ago.

Keane knew Hourihane from his Sunderland days, so why bring him to Ipswich in the first place if he wasn't good enough even to make one appearance? I believe we paid Sunderland compensation for him too. Keane spent nearly £11M on players (permanent signing transfer fees) and I reckon we'd be lucky to get £3M for the lot now.

jas0999 - Are you sure about that? I was certain we paid a fee (undesclosed of course) for him. If so, it will be the first time I can ever remember having paid a fee for a permanent signing who never played for the first team.

The article I read at the time Ipswich signed Hourihane ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/i/ipswich_town/8831348.stm) stated "Sunderland could be due compensation for Hourihane, who can also play at left-back, as he is under 24 and was offered a new contract." I presume therefore that we agreed an amount of compensation with them as I didn't read of it going to a tribunal. Maybe it was wrapped up in the signing of Fulop shortly afterwards somehow.
