Andrews Says No to Leeds
Andrews Says No to Leeds
Tuesday, 2nd Aug 2011 10:52

Keith Andrews’s agent Will Salthouse has confirmed that his player will not be joining Leeds United with another club, believed to be Town, the 30-year-old Blackburn midfielder’s preferred loan destination.

Salthouse told this morning’s Yorkshire Post: "Keith won't be coming to Leeds. Leeds are still interested [in the future], but he just feels there's an opportunity somewhere else and at this moment in time, it's the best opportunity for him.

"There may be a change in the future, but at the moment, he won't be coming. I had a long chat with Simon [Grayson] and [technical director] Gwyn Williams. It was a close decision, but he won't be joining.

"There have been seven or eight of the top Championship clubs interested in him and the decision has been made on the fact that he's found the club where he's comfortable and feels he can develop again."

Nottingham Forest and Portsmouth are also understood to be amongst those who have made enquiries regarding the Republic of Ireland international.

Sounds good all we would need (if he comes) is a class Centre Back and we are in with a good shout

Finally , a great signing along with Bowyer, Chopra and Cresswell!
Fingers crossed he comes.
Just need preferably 2 full backs and a good centre back and we going up!

What with Bowyer and Leadbitter already in the middle, I fear a season of 4-5-1 if we also sign Andrews !

Hope I'm wrong

Seems to me that he's quite an adaptable midfielder which could be good - he scored about a goal in every for games for MK Dons. The new Tommy Miller MK1 perhaps?

This makes a lot of sense! A big defensive midfielder with years ahead of him and a lot to prove. By dropping down from the Premiership, it would appear he is hunrgy for games and the chance to 're-invent' himself! Hope we get him!

He's also played right back for Blackburn
Wondered how he'd make the step up to the Prem when he joined from league 2 but when he first joined he was one of Blackburn's better players. Seems to have lost his way recently when he got injured

also shows that lots of players would prefer 2 come 2 ipswich wether it is paul or stadium or the way we play now but the ammount of decent clubs andrew was linked wiv and he would prefer 2 come 2 ipswich!

Impressive signing if this comes off. Would seem to spell the end of Hyam's chances of starting games this season (for Town at least!) May well also spell the end of any lingering hope of Bullard.

We now need a CB. PJ knows this of course. I would also at a right back, if finances allow...

In PJ we trust!

This would be a great signing if it happens, i think we still desperatly need another right footed CB and also another RB.. maybe another one on loan??

"great signing" ... "great signing" ...

Did you not read the article? We haven't signed him (yet).

Blimey - we don't even know if Town is the club he wants to go to. Let's not jump the gun, eh?

If Andrews does choose us over Leeds and other Championship clubs to become our eighth summer signing it really does show that players are attracted to play for Ipswich and for Paul Jewell and see us going places. Great!

"It's going to be difficult because of the fact - and I know people don't want to hear it - we are finding it hard to attract a certain player. Experienced players don't necessarily want to commute to Ipswich." Roy Keane, January 2011 ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/i/ipswich_town/9336205.stm)

HOLD ON BOYS.
no one not even this club have stated we are his choice.
There are a couple of other championship clubs chasing him.
Calm down.

Would be good.
He worked well with and was a good influence on Tommy Smith out in SA last year if I remember rightly.

i agree with Highgate that Andrews signing would complete the midfield leaving JB to look elsewhere. This will allow Bowyer a more attacking role which he seems to prefer and i expect him to score more than Norris did last season. It does look like 451 is preferred by PJ

Keith Andrews is a regular Republic of Ireland player so unless he was on holidays in South Africa he dident help out Tommy. Trap. used Andrews with Glenn Whelan as his 2 defensive midfielders. He is not a creative type player but would be a very good addition to the team.

Think this would definitely be a good signing if it comes off and I agree that it would probably mean Bowyer being pushed forward more where I would back him to get amongst the goals.

As for people saying that it means we will be playing 4-5-1, I am not so sure. Having three good CMs (Leadbitter, Bowyer + new signing) at the club doesn't necessarily mean will will play three from the start. Jewell has always played 4-4-2 at his previous clubs and what with the abundance of strikers we have I would guess he will stick with it.

Even if we do go with a 4-5-1, I would not be disappointed. People saying that it is too defensive need to recognise that we would probably have Martin and JET, two very attack-minded players on the wings, and that we would probably operate much like Arsenal (who play with just RVP in the centre) plus Bowyer also supporting the attack. Much more of a 4-3-3 than 4-5-1 if you ask me.

Anyway, if this comes off and we add a CB and RB, I would quite honestly be delighted with our business dealings for the summer and think that, even in this tough league, we would have the squad and the manager to easily challenge for the play-offs and, dare I say, even the top two spots. Cheers

Why are people moaning about 451? If its done right, and PJ has used it very effectively before, it could get us the results we need.
This is a tough league and we can't afford to be naive. 1-0 wins will do. Sometimes when you get ahead other teams lose their discipline and more goals come.

If PJ has sense, which he does, he won't play 4-5-1 he will drop Leadbitter and play 442. Sell him I don't care, anything up of 600k I'd take it. Awful signing especially at that price!
