Town's players will make their decision on whether they want to strike after a meeting with regional PFA rep Bob Hatton on October 11th. The players expect to receive their ballot papers in the next few days and across the country players are expected to support a strike.

Town's PFA rep Matt Holland said: "I have spoken with the chairman David Sheepshanks and he has given me some facts and figures. But we won't make any decision until after we have met with Bob Hatton."

Hatton played in David Pleat's Luton side in the 70s and 80s.

Holland, off to join the Irish squad for their game with Cyprus, feels that the PFA needs more funding for those retiring early with injury and young players who simply don't make the grade. Holland feels that the players should feel some of the financial brunt of this with increased union fees for the top earners something he advocates: "I certainly think that the PFA could look at their subscription fees. At the moment we pay £75 a year to be a member - that means that a player at a Third Division club is paying the same fee as the David Beckhams and Michael Owens of English football."

PFA chief Gordon Taylor said yesterday that he and Premier League boss Richard Scudamore are well away from a solution to the issue. Scudamore is set to meet with the Premier League board today with Taylor expecting to hear the outcome of the meeting.

Ipswich Town Polls
