Clapham Off
Clapham Off

Reports this afternoon suggest that Jamie Clapham may become a target for Southampton and Middlesbrough. The left-sided defender or midfielder has failed to hold down a regular place for most of the last year and there have been rumours suggesting he is unsettled at Portman Road.

George Burley denied that any contact had been made regarding Clapham: "I can assure you there has been no contact with any other club about Jamie Clapham. He is like a lot of players at this club in that he is fighting for a first team place, which is something we need in this division."

Both Boro and Southampton are in need of a left-back while Clapham would welcome first team football. Asked how the club would react if an offer did come in Burley said: "In that situation it’s up to the player as well."

Town have a history of letting unhappy players go, if that is indeed the case with Clapham. Last season David Johnson left after failing to gain a first team place while James Scowcroft left in the summer for similar reasons.

Meanwhile Town have heard nothing more from Wimbledon about a move to sign Wayne Brown. The centre-half is on loan with the Dons and has impressed since his move there. A permanent move looks very much on the cards, but nothing is happening yet, George Burley: "Wimbledon have not been in touch since Wayne joined them, but it is an ideal opportunity for him to play regular first team football. It would have to be down to Wayne what happens next. I can’t guarantee him first team football at Ipswich, but I would still like to keep him at the club. I would need to speak to Wayne to see how he feels. If Wimbledon made an offer I would have a chat with him about things."

TWTD is currently running a poll on whether fans want to see Brown leave. Currently 67.7% would like him to stay.
