Birmingham and Coventry Eyeing Scotland
Birmingham and Coventry Eyeing Scotland

Scouts from Birmingham and Coventry were interested spectators as sub Jason Scotland scored one and created another during the Blues’ 2-1 victory over Leeds at Portman Road on Saturday. But the Trinidadian striker insists he wants to stay at Town and fight for a place in Paul Jewell’s side.

Scotland said: “I’ve worked very hard in pre-season, and I don’t want to leave here. I love this place, the club and the people.

“I can only do what the manager asks me to do, and to get this chance was just what I needed. But it’s not just about me. Everyone was working so hard around me as we chased the game.

"We have terrific supporters, and I’m just so pleased for them that we have ended a bad run,” he added.

Jewell says he is no hurry to sell any of his players but admits that everyone has their price: “Arsenal can’t keep hold of Fabregas and Nasri, so if someone comes in and offers silly money for any player [we’d consider it] but we’re not kicking them out of the door.

“I’ve said all along, every player here, as long as they give everything, will be considered. Whoever that is.”

Speaking after Saturday’s game, the Blues manager says he has been impressed with the attitude and work ethic shown by Scotland, whose Town contract is up next summer: “I have to pick a team. I see them every day in training. I see who looks sharp and Jason has done well. He’s been in and out but he’s never sulked.

“He’s worked hard, he’s knuckled down and today he scored a terrific goal and was involved in the second one.

“I can only pick five subs and you want people to give you problems. But tonight is the wrong night to talk about players going or selling them. I think Jason deserves a pat on the back because he hasn’t sulked he’s just got on with it.”

The 32-year-old was linked with his former club Swansea earlier in the summer, while Sheffield Wednesday were also said to be interested.

Jewell was keeping any developments regarding any further Town signings very much to himself: “There might be and if there’s any news, we’ll let you know!”

I think he showed Saturday that he still has a part to play, or was he putting himself in the shop window?

Need to keep him, in my opinion. Would MUCH rather let go Priskin, and he'd go for a higher price.

Maybe not a regular starter but we need a good squad, not just a team. He's closer to playing than Tamas so keep him!

Give tamas away as Scotland is coming good

Good on you Scotland!! You played very well sat, held the ball up well, won balls in the air and scored a great goal and set one up. Def starter for the Blackpool game in place of JET me thinks.

Hopefully bullard can get some good training in over the next few weeks and start ahead of grant leadbitter at blackpool

It says a lot about the spirit within the squad that Jason wants to stay and fight for a place. Last season it seemed he was doing everything he could to get away !

A good sign for the future.

I have always been of the view that Priskin would be the better striker to keep of the two. But Scotland appears to be shaping up to the task in both physical and mental ability , and demonstrates on the pitch that he KNOWS where the goal is, Priskin has not !

Id actually like to see Chopra, Scotland and Murphy used in 3 pronged attack now !

Looking Sharp and fit clearly wants to stay, happy to come off the bench it appears, chopra and him up front with Murphy supplying from the wing could be lethal, must keep ball on ground though to get most from our strikers....

Agree lanky, If Scotland can keep himself fit, (he looks to have lost a bit of weight to me) & do a job for the team, I think we should keep him. IMO I think he's always been a better player coming off the bench, rather than a starting 11 player. Priskin is the one we should be looking to get shot of.

To be honest I struggle to see why Birmingham would want Scotland at his age, I can see Coventry wanting him more.

No problem keeping him as a sub and doing what he did on Saturday for last 20 to 30 minutes. Maybe the way to get best out of him as Chopra will always start if fit.

Suffolk :
i agree can't see why we would want him as we have king who's around the same age , we need someone younger & maybe cheaper on wages. We have no large transfer fund so it's free's and loans, that's why we lost Lee Bowyer.

He is definitely a lot fitter and lost a good few pounds. Work rate was good to. Keep him!

On his day Jason can be brilliant. He played well on saturday, very good and important goal. I watched him play against Northampton and he worked hard throughout the game but never really looked like scoring.
All in all I think we should keep him as he does score al lot more than Priskin does and the Duke is yet to prove himself.
I do still believe that Priskin could be quite a good player but at the moment he's our least favoured striker, so if he fetches a good price he should go.
Anyone know what wages he's on or what sort of price we can expect to get for him?

If we let Priskin go all our strikers will be pretty old though, with the exeption of Jet.

Hard to criticise any of our strikers given the service they get. Scotland was top Scorer last year - probably creating most of the goals for himself so think it would be foolish to let go.

Much better than the hopeless Ellington (you could see in pre-season that he would be a poor PJ signing). I think we should keep Scotland - playing in a 4-4-2 he will score goals. Very unlucky to be played as an isolated striker in a negative PJ formation last season.

Said all along play him up top with a partner he's a totally different player
