Clegg Hopeful on Stand Sponsorship
Clegg Hopeful on Stand Sponsorship
Friday, 2nd Sep 2011 13:57

Chief executive Simon Clegg says there could be movement on the sponsorship of one of Portman Road's stands this season. The South Stand is most likely to receive a name change having been known as the Greene King Stand until the summer of 2009.

Clegg says developments are currently ongoing but are at an early stage: “I expect to be making some progress on stand sponsorship this season.

“There are a couple of people who want to speak to me but we haven’t talked [in detail] yet, so my expectation may be unrealistic and you don’t allow stand sponsorship to go cheaply or for only one or two seasons.”

Previously, Clegg has suggested that sponsorship of the club’s Portman Road ground could also be a possibility.

Meanwhile, Clegg says that the disappearance of the annual fans' kit vote in the last couple of years has been down to the club’s managers: “We haven’t run it in recent seasons because the engagement has been with the manager.

"It’s the manager and the team who have to wear the kit and you have to be very careful about having clothing selected by committee. Ultimately, you want the players out there to feel good in the kit that they’re wearing.”

He says the situation isn’t likely to change: “It’s not something which is likely to be rethought, not at this moment in time.”

Renameing the stand is fine but please dont rename the whole stadium. You have enough enemies as it is.

i doubt the players feel good about the current shirt - it's a pig's ear of a kit. the last kit chosen by the manager, as i recall, was the orange and black shocker Joe Royle worked his design magic on a few years back. nuff said.

I think we should have matching home and away kits and the style picked by the fans.....and a white away kit

It's always been the south (more commonly I think)/green king stand. Just leave it alone!

Since when does Paul Jewell run out onto Portman road wearing the shirt?

It's always been Churchmans. Now is an ideal time to rename if after Sir Alf. 50th anniversary of the League Championship win.

Correct stourbridge, i stood on a milk crate as a kid in that end knowing it as Churchman's. Stands are fine, i.e we had a pioneer stand for a while, but avoid re naming the whole ground please!!

Who cares what it's called? It's Churchman's, and until we get rid of the seats on the lower level, it'll be full of zombies.

It should be called the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand, do the decent thing ITFC. Sir Alf won us the top flight championship and put Town on the map. He was England's only World Cup winning manager as well which makes me a proud Town fan. He's got a magnificent statue but I feel he deserves to have a stand named after him. We should all lobby ITFC on this issue although I fear the money men will win once again and it will be given some crap corporate name.

Great comment superblues9. I can not believe the audacity of the club! That for me sums up the emphasis this club is now giving to the fans. Patrick Cobbold would turn in his grave.

Let's hope he is going to be more successful than he is when it comes to agreeing fees with clubs for players! Just one all Summer. It's a joke.

Clogg really has no idea about business. Just look at how many people who would never have considered wearing a football shirt let alone buying one are buying the new England kits!

Sadly Football is now all about MONEY, and it is commercial to the hilt.

If it ain't bolted down it can probably be sold !

Renaming Stands to honour past (but highly successful Managers) does not "make money". Offering the Stand as an advertising median, does !

Stourbridgeblue makes a great point - it will be 50 yrs since we won the league at the end of this season - what a great tribute to that incredible achievement it would be to name the stand after Sir Alf.

No Garv. It will always be known as Churchmans.

If I win Euromillions it will be the Legoman stand and Priskin will play along side Chops.
