Collins Left Out of Stoke Squad
Collins Left Out of Stoke Squad
Friday, 2nd Sep 2011 21:26

Town loan target Danny Collins has been left out of Stoke’s 25-man Premier League squad for the season ahead. The 31-year-old Wales international central defender looks set to join the Blues on loan when Football League clubs are able to take players on loans of up to 93 days from Thursday.

Stoke’s official website says Collins, midfielder Danny Pugh and others have been left out so they can play football elsewhere: “[Manager Tony] Pulis's decision to omit a number of fringe players from his 25-man squad, including Danny Pugh and Danny Collins, reflects his desire to allow them to gain the regular first team football elsewhere by going out on loan.”

Unfortunately bad news for all those Giocentrics.....

Dos Santos is in THFC's 25 man squad!

Who to wish for now?!

It's a pity Stoke couldn't let him know earlier in the week so he could have arranged a six month or season long loan rather than a 93 day one!

Collins turns 32 in four days' time I notice. The left-back / centre-back went to stoke for £2.75M two years ago though, so must have something about him. 6'0" tall, so not a giant.

No marcus, you do not need to name any under 21s in the 25 man squad.

Phil was the article about Jewell saying his capataincy was unsettled following the pompey interest. Were Portsmouth's recently in the cuvre
sud following Milan's in uefa cup - no? Where were you Phil?

Forgive me Phil TWTD I thought we were bigger than that, obviouly not.

Thanks

Another good signing (if completed) and most of the jigsaw pieces are now there. However, his immediate impact may be limited as another player who has had a very limited pre-season and surely needs 4-6 matches under his belt to get unto speed.

It won't be long before Smith is a let out on loan and he must know the righting is on the wall.

We do though, have a need for speed and whilst PJ has acknowledged that he hasn't addressed it yet -a slick RM/RW would do the trick.

Would be interested to know our wage bill now per season as we must be up there with WH and Leicester - Phil any chance of a piece on this?

Interesting to note that in the PL there is a direct correlation with those paying the best wages finishing at the top. No surprise I suppose you say but also interesting is that there is a 90% fit in terms of the wage/league table positions.

Know that the link is two years old by the sentiment remains the same and it is reasonable to believe the same logic will pan out in the other leagues.

Anyway, PJ is still going to need some time for all to bed in but I have a very good feeling about the season ahead.

Get him in on loan, he would be a good addition to the squad.

More loans? No thanks. Should have brought in permanent players and started to build a team for years to come. Instead 11 players in - 16 players out since last season. that's already a short-fall of 5. Then 3 of the 11 are LOANS (more than enough), whilst several others are 30 years old or older! Hardly building a team is it?

Sheffeld Utd and Norwich when relegated relied on half a team of loanees - alarm bells should be ringing.

Jas0999-remember loans usually fall into two types. The first being younger players who need first team experience but are highly regarded by the club, Stockdale a good example. The second is that of players who are out of favour and both club and player want to move on - Andrews is a good example of this.

Players that fall into the later category have not had many first team games and hence getting them on loan with a view to a permanent move is a good policy if used and managed wisely. I'd be very surprised if talks haven't already started with Andrews/Blackburn about a permanent move and whilst they are unlikely to conclude in the next couple of months I expect it to be a done deal (assuming he stays major injury free) in early Dec.

Overall the number of loan players to first team squad - 18 at 3 is manageable and realistic. I am not including Drury as he is way off a first team place.

Another point on the loan signings is that in the Norwich/Sheffield case they couldn't afford any other policy due to financial restructuring and in our case, hardly anyone wanted to sign for us. The later point is no longer the case under PJ and to be fair to ME, it is clear that the wage structure has changed in the past 6 months and hence my first post.

regarding loan players, Andrews has banged in 3 already. How many more can he get at this level, with Jimmy + Bowyer him I think we can expect more goals and creativity from our Midfield this season!
Sonko, Delaney + Collins would give us a great spine in defense.
Im still optimistic and definitey in favor of getting in loan players that are better than our existing players + improve our squad.
