Drury Nets on Crawley Debut
Drury Nets on Crawley Debut
Saturday, 17th Sep 2011 17:31

On-loan Town midfielder Andy Drury got his 93-day spell at Crawley off to a goalscoring start as the Red Devils beat Bradford 3-1 at the Broadfield Stadium this afternoon.

Drury, who was also booked for dissent, slotted the ball past the Bantams keeper from inside the area in the 62nd minute to put his side 2-1 in front and claim his first goal in the Football League. Ex-Blue Tom Eastman was also in the Crawley team, having joined them on loan from Colchester for a month.

Speaking yesterday, boss Paul Jewell said he felt Drury has been a bit unlucky not to play more since his £150,000 January move from Luton: “Andy’s been a bit unfortunate. He’s not started a lot of games and I had a chat with him and told him that at 27 he has to play football.

“He agreed and Crawley have been chasing him for a while. I think he’d got to a stage where he was worried about getting into a comfort zone, which you can do when you get used to coming in every day, you’re training Sunday morning and training Saturday when the team are playing as well.

“He wants to go and feel good about himself and play football. That’s what I want everyone to do. I don’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable.”

Drury’s loan deal includes a clause which could see the switch made permanent in the January transfer window.

Midfielder Jamie Griffiths, 19, played the first hour for his loan club Plymouth as they were beaten 2-0 at Southend, the bottom-of-the-table Pilgrims' eighth successive League Two defeat.

The anti-PJ brigade will love this one but I just don't think he has what it takes at this level. Good luck to him though.

strange that a player PJ signed has been allowed out , with a view to a permanent signing .
he might have been behind some on experience , but he put in more effort than some .....and I'd prefer a team of triers than some coasting towards retirement

Not because he scored today but we shouldn't have let him go. Like I've posted before if Jewell has to replace Bullard when having a bad game I'd want Drury to come on, not Healy, Leadbitter or even Bowyer at this time.

Big four or five games for PJ coming up. Needs a win against Coventry as the next four on current form look bleak to say the least. I seem to remember being at this stage with RK last season.

Liked the look of Drury when he first came into the side, but lost out when Bullard came in. Should have at least of started the season instead of Bowyer who is far too slow an is now over the hill. You are right Garv, who replaces Bullard when he's injured or having a poor game?

agree with Garv too, some much needed attacking energy in the middle and can swing in corners instead of sit deep, back off players and hit corners straight to the 1st defender *cough Leadbitter*

well done drury hopefully we will get a decent fee for him in january.
watching the championship on bbc tonight and seeing the form and qaulity of the other teams i fear for ipswich and find it hard to see what impact we can have!

Maybe if he really shines, PJ will bring him back at the end of the loan instead of letting him go. Still don't see him as a player that should be out the door, but I don't see him every day.

Best of luck to Andy as he seems like a great lad - but despite one decent game (debut) it is clear he is not good enough at Championship level. Great to hear he is doing well at Crawley though.
