Town Summer Target in Cash Row
Town Summer Target in Cash Row
Tuesday, 20th Sep 2011 15:16

Summer Town target James Henry is reportedly embroiled in a pay dispute with his club Millwall. The winger is claimed to want a 50% payrise and is said to be ready to hand in a transfer request.

The 22-year-old winger’s current contract, which runs until 2013, is worth £3,000-a-week but the one-time England U19 international is reported to want an increase to £4,500 with talks believed to have stalled.

Henry has recently been left amongst the Lions’ subs having begun the season as a regular in Kenny Jackett’s side, apparently due to the row.

In July, Blues boss Paul Jewell confirmed that Town had made offers for the ex-Reading man: “We had a bid for James Henry turned down by Millwall. That was the second bid we’ve put in.

“It’s been rejected by Millwall and they’ve told us he’s not for sale, so that’s probably dead that one, so we’re looking elsewhere.”

Town are still on the look-out for widemen and it’s likely Jewell will be monitoring any developments regarding Henry’s situation.

Meanwhile, Suffolk police's internal inquiry into the problems outside the ground at the derby has concluded that more training is required for such games.

A spokesperson said: “The report’s main recommendation is that a larger number of specially-trained officers should be deployed for future, similar key fixtures in order to prevent congestion of the route to and from Portman Road, as well as preventing public disorder.”

3,000 a week, asking for 4,500??? I'm sure Lee Martin would be laughing at his 4,500 salary if he got it

Agree with Suffolkpoker, Cresswell looks a fantastic signing, young, lower league players hungry to prove theirselves at a higher level.

Bang on SuffolkPoker.
All the good championship teams recently seem to have a spine of lower league talent. This guy would be a great addition.

But yet another negative unfriendly comment from 'runningout'.

What's your issue with factual statements, accurate descriptions or truthful adjectives, fella? We are a bigger club than many others.

Maybe you should start by 'runningout' of your house and exploring the uk football world (and size of clubs). It might give us a break from your pompous preaching.
It's ironic...you act like you're above everyone else, yet you make that comment about Ipswich 'acting bigger than others'.
Engage your brain to avoid similar gormless hipocrisy please, it's traits like yours that people find unattractive.

We were thrashed 7-1 by a "smaller club" just a few short weeks ago

Dear all, we are an average championship club, we have failed to land a number of pre season targets. That surely makes us a smaller club. If fact have we ever considered ourselves a big club?

runningout and tractorboybig. i think you both know what suffolkpoker meant and i agree with him, although for every cresswell there will be plenty of drury's . the big clubs take our talent, only fair we take what we can from smaller clubs.....its always been that way... COYB

Do not start calling other clubs smaller. Not a good look and we wouldn't like it if they said same about ipswich.....millwall hardly a small club.

Besides, that may mean they won't sell us their player.....;-)

Very much doubt if Millwall would loan him to a rival club?

We are now a which is just average. Nobodies bothered , worries or cares about us anymore. That includes players , fans and generally any other club. Apart from norwich away when was the last time we managed to make a team fill their stadium up due to threm playing ipswich. Even at home apart from norwich again. When did we fill our own stadium . Arsenal brought what was it 4500 to 5000 in the away section and that's not to mention their fans in amongst us lot. Face fact we are just an average 2 bob club now

I agree with broomfield123 in that we could improve our gate, however I put this down to ticket pricing and what most people see as a bit of an economic problem that many are going through. The club needs to reduce ticket pricing to aid people that would normally want to come to a game but are unable. I would rather have us sell more tickets at a lower price and fill the stands, than charge more per ticket and have vacant stands. It has to stand to reason that it's all well and good making a high profit per ticket, but if you don't sell so many the net yield is that much smaller. Tickets with a smaller profit margin would be sold in greater numbers achieving similar or greater profits but filling the ground, everyone wins, including the team.

It would always be unfair to compare Ipswich in size to clubs such as Arsenal and the top tier of the Premier league as we do not have that many people within the area to draw such large crowds.

Prove is in the pudding. The last time we had a decent season was under royle. And people moaned about him
0

marcus139 added 20:41 - Sep 20
Royle did a great job, i never moaned once. I moaned about magilton and keane however. But i am not moaning about jewell who took us away from relegation last year, has basically just assembled an entire new team, has won 3 from 4, and things are looking up based on last night. As a group of fans, we need to start supporting. And stop moaning and whingeing. If we do our job, we may get somewhere.

marcus139 added 20:44 - Sep 20
Sorry won 3 lost 4! But wins are better than keane draws.

The point is is that we are no longer a club which puts bums on seats either home or away. You can forget playing norwich or arsenal basically for either local rival or the actual team ie arsenal will fill a ground in england just for being arsenal
