Wabara Signs on Loan
Wabara Signs on Loan

Town have completed the signing of Manchester City defender Reece Wabara on a 93-day loan. The right-back or centre-half will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s home game against Brighton.

Boss Paul Jewell said: "We're pleased to have Reece here. He's quick and strong and although he can play in the middle of the defence, I see him as a right-back here and someone who can give competition to Carlos Edwards in that position.”

The player himself, who has been given the number 26 shirt, tweeted: “Delighted to have signed on loan for Ipswich Town. Great club, great fans destined for big things and I hope to be a part of it!"

The England U20 international was first linked with Town earlier in the week when Reading, Millwall and Blackpool were also reported to be interested.

Wabara joined City from Walsall as a youngster and signed a new three-year professional deal earlier in the year.

City are allowing the highly-rated Midlander to move on for the short-term spell to get games under his belt with his first team experience so far only one sub appearance on the final day of last season.

Wabara, whose spell runs until January, comes from a sporting family with ex- Liverpool winger Mark Walters and heavyweight boxer Pele Reid his father Martin’s half-brothers. His grandfather, Lawrence Wabara, was an international footballer with Nigeria in the 1950s.

Looks good, fast attacking fullback. Hopefully he'll be on the bench tommoro, nothin needs to be changed at the mo. He'll find it hard to push Carlos out of the team on his form at the mo though.

Yes, I too am delighted with this loan signing. In my view Carlos Edwards has been the weakest link in defence and now we have options at last at right back.

i think he find it tougher being behind edwards than most of you think. Edwards and cresswell have been vital for our recent turn of form. along with the rest of defense.

It would have been so easy for him to sign for Blackpool in order to stay up in the North West,so that should tell us something for sure, our location isn't putting loan players off which is a big relief because I tended to think that might be the case..

Good genes but no need to change a winning team. Keep Carlos on his toes innit
