Wabara Had Championship Options
Wabara Had Championship Options

New loan signing Reece Wabara says a number of Championship clubs were interested in signing him after Manchester City made him available for a temporary move. The 19-year-old right-back or central defender says he and City coach David Platt decided that Town was his best option, with Reading, Millwall and Blackpool all having been linked.

Wabara said: "My chances are limited at City with the squad they have, so going out on loan will give me the chance to play some football and improve my game.

"David Platt told me there were a few Championship clubs who were interested in me and gave me a couple of days to think about which one I wanted to join.

"He wanted to see which one I chose and when I told him Ipswich, he said that was his view as well.

"I know about Ipswich's history, the fact that they have a good fanbase and that they have a reputation for passing the ball around. Platty knows the gaffer as well and he said Ipswich was a good choice.

"I know Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and had a word with him and he said it was a great club. When you see the players here, there looks a really good squad.

"There are a lot of players here who have played Premier League football and I'm sure playing and training here will help my game, and obviously I'm here to try and help Ipswich as well."

The England U20 international goes straight into a 17-man squad taking on Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, presumably the 16 from the West Ham game plus Wabara.

You will definitely get a game especially when the current right back is out of commission for a few months!

Can only assume he has been brought in for Edwards - PJ will be concerned with the current situation I am sure. But doubt he will play this weekend.

I think it says alot about us as a club if both he and David Platt thought we were the best of the lot, proves that we have a great reputation outside of the championship, now lets live up to that reputation and get back to the prem! COYB!

His 93 days should cover the gap when Collins goes back to Stoke and before transfer window opens, so he can play centre back for us too.

Hopefully he'll refuse to play for City again, I hear there's a bit of that going around.

Disappointed that he didn't add that we had "Premiership training facilities"

Are we slipping?

ohjimmyb - good point; decent cover for Collins when he leaves mid-December.

Great signing.

We did have a reputation for passing the ball about and hopefully we are going to re-establish that under PJ.

very pleased with this and if he does well, who's to say city won't extend his loan? i can't see him breaking into their squad any time this season at least.

It has happened time and time again this season: players choosing us over other Championship clubs. I am sure part of it is the decent wages we are paying, but part is the good reputation for treating players well, making them feel welcome and giving people a chance, as well as seeing that we are moving in the right direction and having an opportunity to challenge for the play-off places. I am sure Paul Jewell is a big part of the reason too, he seems so personable and players he has managed before speak highly of him We are very lucky to have Paul.

Wonder how Platty knows PJ, wouldnt have thought their paths crossed much? One thing is for sure, PJ is a great networker and his contacts are coming up trumps!!

Where have all the moaners gone? Glad to read such happy and positive comments.I think PJ has given us our reputation back and deserves praise for a lot of hard work.To play Middlesboro and WHU off the park shows that the team and system is working.Lets hope the next few games are as good. Onwards and Upwards!

Will give Jewell option on the right side of defence...bit of competition for Edwards, and that could only be good for the team.

Welcome Reece
