Jewell: Martin Recovering After Bizarre Golfing Injury
Jewell: Martin Recovering After Bizarre Golfing Injury
Tuesday, 4th Oct 2011 08:51

Boss Paul Jewell says that there were concerns that midfielder Lee Martin might have suffered permanent damage to his sight when a stone caught him in the eye while playing golf last week. Fortunately the former Manchester United man seems set to make a full recovery from the injury.

Martin suffered the problem when golfing on a day off, a stone flicking up into his eye as he made a shot causing bleeding behind it. An ambulance was called and he saw specialists at London’s Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Jewell says the injury isn't as serious as had been feared and the 25-year-old should be back in action soon: “We were quite worried for a while but thankfully there is no permanent damage and it's now just a case of Lee getting a week's rest and allowing the bleeding to settle down.”

Meanwhile, the Blues manager has confirmed that the groin injury which forced defender Danny Collins out of the Wales squad yesterday is nothing too serious, just a niggle the on-loan Stoke man has been carrying for a while.

Summer signing Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has had an injection in the ankle he injured against Leeds with the problem still not entirely healed.

Jewell said: “He's had a scan and an injection to see if we can settle that down a little bit because he's been playing and training in a little discomfort."

Sounds like the two weeks without a game could be a blessing after all.

Very glad he's not suffered any permanent damage, but frankly I'd forgotten all about him!

Lee Martin will prove to be a very valuable player off the bench this season

we wont be able to play the diamond all season, as when we get one or two players injured. This is when martin, carson and JET will get more game time

As bizarre injuries go, it's up there with the Dave Beasant / salad cream incident and Rio Ferdinand's coffee table injury.

golf, stone, eye - it could have worse, it could have been paper, stone, scissors.

JET didn't look too keen to get a sweat up in the pregame warm up on Saturday last - if I were PJ I'd sort him out - he's pretty lazy lookin

Don't think a two week break will make any difference, most of our lot get injured in training.............and on the golf course.

'he saw specialists at London's Moorfields Eye Hospital'? Surely that is why he went there, because he couldn't see them!

On the serious side, I am glad the injury is not serious and that he buckles down to getting himself back in the first team.

I think he has been really unlucky this season, shouldnt have been a red at peterborough, now this. He looked good when he came on against southampton with jet at half time. I think a good impact player

Pleased to hear no serious damage but frankly I would be pleased if he never features for an Ipswich Town first 11 ever again. He is hopeless and we will never win anything with him in the side unless the other 10 play out of their skins.

The fact that we beat Bristol with him in the side AND he scored just shows how bad they were!
