Premier League Duo Linked With Andrews
Premier League Duo Linked With Andrews
Tuesday, 4th Oct 2011 15:49

Premier League duo Wigan Athletic and Swansea City are reported to be keeping a close eye on loanee midfielder Keith Andrews with a view to making a move for the Irishman in January. The 31-year-old is with the Blues on a half-season loan from Blackburn.

Andrews, who has another year on his contract at Ewood Park after this season, with Town seemingly certain to want to keep him at Portman Road beyond January after a decent start to his spell which has seen him score four goals in eight starts and one sub appearance.

The former MK Dons man's move to Portman Road has always been viewed as a loan with a view to a permanent switch. However, serious interest from Premier League sides could be a threat to that happening.

Phil - is either Andrews or Collins a loan with a view to buy?

let's hope we're firmly in the promotion race come January so we can tempt him to sign permanently. A promotion battle must be more fun to play in than a relegation scrap

Lets hope he loves it here so he signs for us.

Or hope this is just paper talk

well, lets be honest, wigan and swansea are two of the teams everyone's expecting to get relegated this season. and if ipswich can secure this deal, and if he sees that we are 'going places', he'll know to sign for us! great player though, and would love it if we keep him! COYB!<3

Difficult isn't it
Apart from Wigan and Swansea (and I agree with taylor15) if the player does well he's going to be in demand. And if he's in demand his price goes up. And if that's a Premiership price it might be 2m.
I think that if in January we are in the top 3 and he is central, we should do our best to buy. If mid table then the wheels come off anyway.

The additional point to consider is if Blackburn are in a relegation scrap themselves - possibly with a new manager at the helm, they may want him back?

By January, both Swansea and Wigan will doubtless be in precarious positions in the PL.

And I wonder if he would actually got offered better wages at either of them than he might be offered from Ipswich anyway, even if they are PL clubs. Certainly, I would think we could compete reasonably with Swansea.

Does anyone know any details about the option to purchase e.g.is this an exclusive arrangement and as saffronblue raises, is there a pre-agreed fee?
He sounds like a keeper so far.

The problem for andrews , clegg and PJ is if we wish him permenatly here is :- how long a contract would you offer him and he accept in Jan?
the lure of the premiership is great and the financal reward beyond our means. More important is collins, Dear Marcus may be about to reach his zenith, his commitment to ITFC may well be put to the absolute test if things are going well.

All - I am less worried about this but talk is ineviteable when loans such as Andrews and Collins work out really well.

Certainly they both have settled very well, made a great contribution, seem well liked and part of a great team spirit. Let's hope we are in a great position come December.

ME has backed PJ beyond what most of us expected so far and as I have said before the wage bill must be up there with West Ham and Leicester. No need to think that either deals have not had a clause put in with agreed transfer fees - certainly Steve Keane indicated back in August as much - 'Rovers boss Steve Kean said: “Keith Andrews had four or five clubs chasing him, which is no surprise. He joins Ipswich on loan with a view to a permanent purchase.

“I think Keith will do very well and we wish him the best.”

The biggest worry is that Keane is sacked and the new manager recalls Andrews. :-(

ME has really backed PJ

This is the problem with loans - we could be back to square one in January. Having said that I still believe our midfield lacks a bit of pace - so a PERMANENT signing in January - who is under 30 and with pace would probably tick all the boxes. ME has continued to back ALL managers during his time with the club. I am sure he will continue to do so - but in fairness Andrews could easily play in the PL.

Has everyone forgotten a certain player who was wanted buy many sides including premiership ones who as sooon as he could he signed for Ipswich and is now a major part of our midfeild,Also this will be an interesting test of character for the player and i think he will pass with flying colours. You may find that in an arrangement "to make permanent" wich is between clubs not individuals that they cannot recall him.Lets hope he stays with collins we get promotion and then we can make a serious offer (£6m+) for our other loanee and then there's no need to worry about a GK.

Having received £8m in the summer, and not spending that much at all (OK, wages are probably high), I would like to think Evans will back us in January, especially if we are near the top of the table, in tying up the players that got us there, i.e Andrews, Collins (most important for me).

Collins' celebration after Sonko's goal on Saturday infront of the North stand was brilliant to see.

why would we have to "buy" him surely if he is out of contract at the end of the season we can just sign him in jan for free and keep him here on loan till then ?

rosseden added 19:12 - Oct 4
Blue til i die

Blackburn will want to cash in on him or he walks for free, so we have to stump something up or theyll sell him to the highest bidder......

I think he will stay, i also think collins will. You have to bare in mind these guys were pretty much cast out of their current clubs and welcomed with open arms here, there is a positive vibe in the place now, im sure on 15k a week or so and being part of a good group of lads is all they want..... whats the alternative, go to a club where they might get a bit more cash, but that contract will have a % drop off in it if the club go down, so they could be back to square one.......
