Lavery Offered Pro Deal
Lavery Offered Pro Deal
Tuesday, 4th Oct 2011 22:31

TWTD understands that Town have offered striker Caolan Lavery a professional contract until the end of the season. The 18-year-old’s academy scholarship is due to end this month having been extended after he missed much of last season with a knee injury.

The Northern Irish U21 international has netted five goals in seven FA Premier Academy League games for the U18s so far this season plus a further four for the reserves and appears to have proved himself to manager Paul Jewell. The Blues and the player’s agent are now in negotiations regarding the terms of the deal.

A fortnight ago Jewell said he had been impressed with Lavery’s showing in the early part of the campaign: “We gave him until October to prove his fitness and to see if he’s worth a pro contract.

“He’s done well and he’s one we have to make a decision on in the next week or two. Certainly, he’s got good desire.

“He’s come back a lot fitter and shown a good attitude, so we’ll be sitting down to discuss what we’re going to do with him.”

The youngster from Red Deer, Alberta in Canada joined the Town academy two summers ago and represented the country of his birth at U17 level before switching allegiance to Northern Ireland, who he qualifies for via his parents, along with the Republic of Ireland.

Last season, academy manager Sammy Morgan dismissed tabloid claims that Spurs were chasing the 5ft 11in tall frontman, while Leicester City are understood to have been monitoring his situation.

Also, how tall is Caolan?

And finally, well done lad!

Everytime Lavery plays he reminds me of Rooney. Pleased we signed him up as given a couple of years he will definately be playing for a top club. His transfer fee will be higher than Wickhams.

Pazelle ,in addition to Yallop we've had Craig Forrest, Jason deVos, Asmir Begovic (sort of) and Jaime Peters. Sir Bobby managed the Vancouver Royals in 1967 and then brought Ipswich to Vancouver in 1969 and 1976 for pre season training and friendlies.

Caolan is 5' 11".

Well deserved. With the same determination and graft, let's hope the next one is a three year contract.

It is good to see that the club gave him extra time to prove himself and has grasped the opportunity with both hands. Now he needs to continue to work hard and push himself into the reckoning for the first team.

Due to the crap reserve fixture system we have in this country, he may need to go on loan for a bit to get regular first team action.

ottawa fan, dirty dingus and pazelle

Yes Trevor Whymark played for the Vancouver Whitecaps in 1979 and 1980. He was a star player when Vancouver won the North American Championship in 1979. Those were fun times with many great prodessionals in their twilight football years plus up and comers e.g. Peter Beardsley and Bruce Grobelaar playing for Vancouver. Frans Thijssen also had a short stint with Vancouver in 1984.
