Big Crowd Expected for Palace Game
Big Crowd Expected for Palace Game
Thursday, 20th Oct 2011 19:30

Town are expecting a crowd of around 24,000 for Saturday’s home game against Crystal Palace. The Blues are running a ticket promotion with adult seats available for £10.

Ticket office manager John Ford said: "We have sold 22,700 tickets already so I'd expect us to be close to 24,000 on Saturday.

“The season ticket promotion was popular with supporters last season and it's proved the same this year."

Ford added: "Due to the high ticket sales for the game there will be limited tickets available for the cash turnstiles normally operated on a match day.

"It is highly likely there will be no cash turnstiles for the Sir Bobby Robson Stand with limited numbers available in the three other stands for home supporters."

sad when you are playing a team above you in the playoff places you only get a crowd this size with a special promotion on tickets.

Get the pricing right and we could have decent crowds every home game.

There's a recession on in case Clegg and co hadnt noticed and whilst some of us are able to pay the over inflated prices at PR many are not. We need a completely different approach to pricing if the overall fall in attendances is to be halted.

I don't have a season ticket because I go with different people but last season I spent more on home tickets that I would have if I had a season ticket. I think its swings and round abouts. They have advertised this offer for the last two seasons so its not a suprise. Will be good to see a decent crowd, if we move up the table with a decent performance it could be enough to keep some of them coming back which I guess is what its all about.

My father in law paid £33 on the gate for sir bobby upper on Tuesday! And got treated to that performance!! I could get a ticket at anfield for £40. It's awful. Stable prem teams are cheaper like Bolton. Wigan. Blackburn. Etc. I know they are competing against each other for support and Ipswich do not. £20 a ticket for all stands £5 - £10 for kids and they'll have 20000 each week.

But ITFC are constantly losing money, are they not?

The difference in wages between CC and PL players need to be MUCH bigger, purely because of the massive difference in TV revenue.

They need to make a BSc in Economics a requirement for those running football clubs (and organisations) because at the moment they don't have a ****ing clue. I assume Evans owns us for fun.

I'm guessing ticket prices reflect players wages?...the sooner they stick a cap on player's ridiculous salaries the better for all of us, one would assume....

Doncaster next, normal service resumed 18,000, don't think a one game offer will bring people back, people will just take advantage then walk........

Match ticket prices are far too high and I hope that Saturday shows people will come if prices are lower. We probably only sell around 3,000 tickets per match to home fans don't we? (after season tickets) We all know people who would like to go but can't afford it, and that is a real shame as we all suffer when there is a poor atmosphere in the stadium due to low attendances.

I notice on the club website that Ipswich v Doncaster will be a "family festival" match: 1 adult + 1 junior for £20 and other offers. Maybe the club are starting to innovate a bit with prices? Please keep it up as the blanket £26+ tickets are killing attendances. Also, please scrap the £2.50 on the day surcharge and the £1 booking fee that some people have to pay.

A significant portion of Palace Fans are boycotting the game over our proces for away fans so don't expect too much noise from them
QUOTE
Crystal Palace fc ultras group, Holmesdale Fanatics (HF05 ) have released a communique stating that they will be boycotting the upcoming match between Crystal Palace and Ipswich in protest over rising ticket prices at football and Ipswich Town's exploitation of visiting supporters which is out of synch with most of the league. They highlight the fact that home tickets are priced at 10 whereas away supporters are being forced to pay £31 in advance and £35 on the day.

Palace fans must be protesting at home as well then cos they only got 11,000 odd on Tuesday. My mate is a palace fan and said they were poor.

Come on town fans. Atmosphere on Tuesday was non existent. We are 5 th and unbeaten in 6. Let's here all our voices. We need an anthem cos all teams that come to PR have and we haven't

Nice to have a big crowd in Portman Road for a change though - whatever the cost. It might just make the difference.

What about home fans who don't know a season ticket holder? No point thinking of going at all. This promotion is ridiculous - make it 10 pounds for everyone (including away fans) or don't bother.

My mate upgraded his boys U16 Season Ticket to an Adult ticket FREE. Might help some one if their kid can't make it.

Clegg and other board members, is this not clear now?

charge £30 for a ticket and:
1. stop true fans that are suffering from a recession watching there team
2. have an attendance of 18,000
3. loose the atmosphere as the loyal fans that are there ever week singing their heart out dissapear for money issues
4. Stop the growth of fans in the area as adults cannot simply justify paying £100 to take their families to watch a championship game
5. Just generally be seen as an idiot

charge £10-15 a game and:
1. See crowds of around 23-24,000
2. See that the loss of money for the club will have a long term benefit for the club as the atmosphere is back, more people want to go for the atmosphere and the capacity gradually increases.
3. More people being able to afford to go to the game will result in an increase in shirt sales and other merchandise, pies, beers etc
4. more neutrals around the area will be able to afford to go and see how amasing we are and our local support will grow
5. Be seen as likeable

That's probably what the issue is though. They are losing money as it is so losing an extra £200K per match would be downright suicide.

Quite right, Frase1987. Any sane business would not be lowering prices. Utilities companies don't car manufacturers don't - what they do is up their marketing campaigns, just like ITFC are doing with this offer. Less people buying, marketing increases your share of the spend. I'm glad we seem to have business savvy at the helm.

Thats rich coming from Palace when he have to pay excessive prices to sit in one of the worst grounds in the division. The only thing I would say is why pick an attractive game like Palace as a ticket promotion game. I know Palace were not flying when this was announced but thay always bring a good away support despite the prices. The Doncaster match would have been a far better option as they will bring about 500 and we will get 18000. Poor decision in my opinion.

do the maths!
charge £10-15 per game and you would kill your income as season ticket prices would also have to come down
6,000 extra at £10 brings in £60k,
2,000 extra at £31 brings in £62k.
the best way to fill the ground is for the team to keep winning.

If thats the case how are other teams managing to do it and still be profitable? Can only blame the board
