Collins: Tiredness Played a Part
Collins: Tiredness Played a Part
Monday, 24th Oct 2011 13:42

Defender Danny Collins says tiredness has played a part in this week's under par performances against Portsmouth and Crystal Palace. The Blues were fortunate to gain a 1-0 victory over Pompey last Tuesday but lost by the same scoreline to the Eagles on Saturday.

Collins said: “Maybe one or two of the boys were looking a little bit leggy. The manager certainly told us that we looked tired.

“We were a bit scruffy on the ball, I felt. In fact, I don’t remember us stringing four or five good passes together.

“Credit to them though, they caught us on the break. They’ve got pace out wide and they were quite direct.”

The on-loan Stoke man thought the Blues might have been awarded a penalty in the late incident which led to Aaron Cresswell speaking out of turn to referee David Phillips and receiving his second yellow card of the game: “I think Grant Leadbitter’s got there before the lad, played the ball and he’s gone through the back of him.

“You can see the referee has gone to put the whistle towards his mouth but has then realised it’s in the box and thought ‘I can’t give it’.”

Collins is on a 93-day loan with Town which is up after the Barnsley game on December 10th. The 31-year-old could return to Portman Road in January with both club and player having said they would be interested in continuing the arrangement.

The leggy players didn't play international matches, we're not in Europe or the cup ...only got league games to play! If they're tired, then have to question their fitness and training. Okay, Bullard and one or two others perhaps are still catching up, but even so! Biggest game of the season, in front of the biggest crowd of the season ...and our strikers are rested.

Tired!!? FFS, the season has barely begun, and we've just had an international break.

Tiredness? You're having a laugh. Are they not meant to be athletes? Oh hang on they had three games in a week bless them. Four and a half bl**dy hours that's all and maybe three hours a day training. Get real will you and imagine how many hours the fans have to work to be able to afford to watch the tripe served up on Saturday.

If it was anything to do with tiredness they should feel ashamed of themselves, I can remember russel osman , playing for Ipswich youths in the morning and then in the afternoon rushing off to play rugby in the afternoon. Was not good enough .. Coyb

People's ignorance makes me laugh... We have an old squad, three games in a week is enough to knacker anyone above the age of 30 without a doubt no matter how fit you are. They're human, not f*cking machines.

I play football twice a week and it does take few days for your body to recover. But this is why we have squads if players are tired they are more likely to get injured. The thing is Palace have also had three games in a week and they didnt look tired. If we had of won these comments would not even have been mentioned.

It is no excuse to say that they or any other footballer is tired, the training process they go through during the week ensures that they are not tired for games. (Personal experiences)
They are trained athletes with some of this countries best staff in their specified areas of expertise. physios, coaches, dietitians etc
Players are fitter now than 20/30 years ago due to diets and training, 30 years ago they only had 1 sub, drank and smoke every day, without complaining about tiredness!
The way we have been playing recently the only part of the body that may be tired is the necks of the midfield from watching the ball being hoofed over there head all game :-)
Rant over
Bring on Millwall, we'll be in the playoffs this year.

regarding the players we have , if they have one or two games which invlove a lot of leg work this will take it out on our older players ,hence why we should have younger bodies around the old boys . the midfield is far to old to have four in there and its been obvious pace wide is our problem . bullard is playing more defensive and so is having to get about more rather than picking up bits behind the front two . against pace we struggle fact .

Going back a lot of years, when world of sport used to be on, they interviewed a sheff weds player near the end of the season and they were regarded as one of the fittest teams in the top flight at the time and asked him about playing three times in a week because of a fixture pile up. His answer was quite simply " it's not a hard life is it!" that was twenty years ago at the end of the season. Not a quarter of the way in! Tiredness is no excuse at all at this stage of the season.

We need therefore to play a possession, passing game with bursts of energy to use the skills of our players.
It's a complete waste of time playing to other teams' strengths.

I can't think of many players we've had in recent years who have regularly put in a 'good shift'- Kuqi, Westlake, Richards, Stocky, Holland, Clapham, one or two others when they felt like it. When Kuqi had played 90 mins on a Saturday and was playing again on a Tuesday we would place bets on what time he would 'hit the wall'- usally whilst chasing another almost lost cause, a good man, always seemed to give his all.

Saturday we seemed to have too many players looking unfit, too many 30+ perhaps?

Complete nonsense, train only 2 hours a day (have the Monday off if they played saturday) best food, physio, nutrition, facilities etc etc

You would never hear Stuart Pearce say he was tired, he "worked" for living being becoming a footballer and knew just how lucky they are

Grrrr !!

rubbish excuse, lovely playing surface and only 13 games into the season, just had an international break, years ago with only 1 sub, playing on a complete bog of a pitch , they never moaned , they had to head leather balls that would take your head off, nope todays players are over pampered. COYB

Lots of recent stats show our players run further/try harder than everyone else, and now our players seem tired and not quite good enough. Having the 'best fitness' for 3-4 weeks and getting some points on the board doesn't make you the best team. As PJ constantly states: don't get carried away, there is still a long way to go.
At least these days there is something to build on, instead of this time last year - sweating blood, bickering in the dressing room, playing hoooofball, whilst plummeting into the abyss.
Some of you need to calm down — h32 particularly.

Tired Town 'need rest' - what a PATHETIC excuse - but some of the muppets will take it all in.

Just a reminder to the same muppets that see fit to condone young, FIT players with much potential, offered paltry 6 month contracts (if they're lucky), of course, subsequently leave the Club: -

Played: 94
Goals Scored: 45
Goals Scored (last 5 games): 13

What a record for someone (who some of you I refer to) said:- wouldn't make it, not proved at higher level, never make the grade, etc; etc; etc;
You know who you are - eat humble pie, and plenty of it.

Just one of our past 'promising' players allowed to leave the Club having not been adequately assessed for potential.
Before some bright spark replies and says:- 'it wasn't PJ' Fact is the policy has not changed one iota since - it's there for all to see that it is as before.

Our aging team is TIRED - we must not forget that (and that's BEFORE the grounds get heavy) ....... I feel so sorry for them. B##LOCKS.

Check my previous posts, and get your facts right, and you will see I predicted both the the above would happen.

Much re-structuring behind the scenes needed at this Club - for it to positively move forward.

@J4ck22 - you are in the minority mate, you're right they're not f***ing machines, but they are supposed to be pros with a working week half that of most people, no money worries, little stress and a support network (trainers, dietry consultants etc) second to none. These guys do for a living what a lot of people do in their spare time as well as their full time jobs (if they are lucky enough to escape doing the dance (redunDANCE)).

Yet another case of a footballer opening his mouth before engaging his brain.

Reality check needed.
