Stockdale Not Ruling Out Longer Term Stay
Stockdale Not Ruling Out Longer Term Stay
Tuesday, 25th Oct 2011 14:20

On-loan Town keeper David Stockdale hasn’t totally ruled out joining the Blues on a permanent basis when his current spell is up at the end of the season. The 26-year-old signed a new contract with parent club Fulham taking him up to 2015 in July, the same day as he joined Town on a season-long loan.

The England squad regular says he doesn’t expect to usurp Fulham’s 39-year-old current number one Mark Schwarzer in the short term: “He’s a quality goalkeeper and he’s going to be like that for a number of years yet. I think he could have another two or three seasons in him the shape he keeps himself in.

“If that proves to be the case then you never know what could happen. I’ve signed a long-term contract there, but if we got promoted and the gaffer wanted me, you can never say never.

“I really like it here,” he added. “The coaching staff are great, the squad is good and I’m totally settled and happy.”

However, speaking a month ago, boss Paul Jewell, who is continuing to search for a third keeper in addition to Stockdale and deputy Arran Lee-Barrett, said he thought it was unlikely that the Cottagers would be willing to sell: “We’re watching lots of goalkeepers and we’re trying to line up a keeper for next season because I know that Fulham won’t sell David Stockdale.

“We’re trying to line up a young one who will hopefully take us forward in the next few years."

Brilliant keeper, and like Paul Jewell said, Fulham won't sell him. Personally, I'd love him to stay, and I guess mainly all town fans would too, but he is out of our league if we stay in this league next season. However, say we do get promoted this season - who knows?! COYB!

I'd take him over several PL keepers.

If we were to go up I would say there's a better than 50-50 chance he would stay. But it's a very, very big if.

Frase1987 :- Make you totally right ! I think he'd stay if we were not to go up [ being settled etc ], but if we were up there somewhere with a good chance we might make it next season. The only stumbling block [ and it would be a big one ] is, how much would Fulham would want for him ?

P.S. ^ The " We're watching a lot of goalkeepers ", for me is an old sales ploy !

It was unthinkable that Bullard would join lowly ITFC a couple of months ago, so if the right conditions should exist say - we get to the play-offs or finish 1 or 2 then anything is possible

We could swap places with Fulham for next season and money could get tight at CC

Very nice thought, but would be very surprised if he stayed. Lets face it look at how many MOM awards he already has, must put him in line for player of the season IMO

Excellent Premiership player
He is/will be in great demand and rightly so.

So. We are a long way away from qualifying as his club for the next 5 years.

IF Fulham Drop, think we could have a god chance of signing him.

Fulham are 17th in the league and have lost their last three games, so perhaps they are not that much more attractive than Ipswich. If Fulham go down they may well stick with Schwarzer and look to move Stockdale on. Whether he chooses to come here and we can afford him are other questions. Of course, he could be called back any day now!

If Fulham do not pick up soon they may recall anyway.

Pack your bags Stockdale...you're staying at Ipswich!!!

The only way this would happen is if we go up and Fulham go down.

As long as they stay in the top flight with Stockdale on a long term contract they have all the power of negotiation on a fee. You'd be talking £8m+ easy.

Fan in shock "I might stay" comment.

A casual Town fan interviewed after the recent Palace defeat said he might like to stay as a Town fan. Despite the defeat the unnamed fan said, "I quite like Portman Road, the pies are good and the rest of the fans seem quite freindly - if a little reserved and quiet".

When questioned further the fan who came from just down the road said he was a little put off by how few other supporters came from within the Ipswich borough. Perhaps he was being duped he said, and that others had seen through the hype....
