Pablo Not Looking for Return to Spain
Pablo Not Looking for Return to Spain

Former Blue Pablo Couñago says he would rather continue playing abroad rather than return to Spain. The 32-year-old, who is currently without a club, has confirmed that he has been targeted by Tenerife, as reported yesterday, but expects to have other options overseas in the new year.

Couñago, who spent two years with Malaga in between his spells with Town, says he hasn’t always enjoyed his time in Spanish football and would prefer to continue playing elsewhere: "I am hoping to have options with foreign clubs.

"In the summer I had some proposals, but didn’t manage to make them concrete. Now I am hoping that some possibilities are there in January and February."

Despite this, the former Spanish U21 international, who was released by Town in the summer after spending last season on loan at Crystal Palace, says he’s flattered that Tenerife made contact: "That a team such as Tenerife are interested is always good, but it’s in my mind to play for a foreign team.”

While not totally ruling out a further spell in Spanish football, Couñago says that at the moment he sees himself playing out the rest of his career elsewhere.

The former Celta Vigo man rejoined the Blues after leaving Malaga on a free transfer in the summer of 2007, having previously been at Portman Road between 2001 and 2005.

The striker made 147 starts and 95 sub appearances across his two spells, scoring 62 goals.

I.E. Spanish clubs outside the top two do not pay enough money.

Not content with the £5-6 million he made from ITFC.

@ Marshall's Mullet - I think you'll find there are very few clubs outside the top 12 biggest in La Liga that have any money to spend. The first week of the season in the top two leagues were postponed because of player strike action because of unpaid monies from the previous season.

You can't blame Pablo for wanting to be paid.

Sign him up? Sadly I don't think we would be seeing the best of Pablo if he were to rejoin for a third spell and I think he'd be well doen the order if he were to come back. A player with such creativety and vision but frustrating as well.
I've never been one to keep bringing up the past but I would love to see a bid put in for Jordan Rhodes, he's scoring for fun at Huddersfield and I'm sure could make the step up. (Maybe we could make Keane pay the difference between what we sold him for and how much it would take to bring him back)

Would rather have kept Pablo here than the in-effective Ellington and the waste of space that is Priskin..couldn't have done any worse.

^^^as for Jordan Rhodes buryblue77,numpty Roy Keane has got a lot to answer for on that one..criminal that he was let go.

So, if we assume that he was only on the pitch for half the during his 95 sub appearances and add 47.5 to 147 then he scored 62 times in 194.5 games! Almost a goal every three games - I do not remember him being that prolific, being valued more for the disruption he caused that helped others score. Still, the ideal would be to get him in at Huddersfield so they could release Jordan Rhodes to us...

Lightningboy, had forgotten Priskin, at least Pablo would get ahead of him and when on his game I'd love to see Pabs feeding Chopra but i feel he'd be too inconsistent for Jewells liking.

Would that be the same Jordan Rhodes who has scored 13 goals so far this season?

On the subject of Pablo, he's even too lazy to travel to Spain to play football
