Jewell Hopeful on Sonko
Jewell Hopeful on Sonko

Town boss Paul Jewell is hopeful that central defender Ibrahima Sonko will be fit to face Millwall at the Den on Saturday after missing last week’s game with Crystal Palace due to his hamstring problem. Damien Delaney is more of a concern with the foot injury he suffered against the Eagles.

Jewell said: “It’s always a late decision on Sonko. He’ll be training this morning and hopefully he’ll come through that. If he comes through, we’ll see how he is tomorrow but if he’s fit, he’ll play.”

Irishman Delaney appears less likely to be involved against the Lions: “I would think he is very doubtful.

“The injury’s between the fourth and fifth metatarsal. I don’t think it’s a metatarsal injury, but that’s where he’s getting his pain and that’s where he’s had his injection.

“I don’t think it will be long-term. He just came in at half-time and said he’d gone over on his foot a bit and he’d twisted it.

“The physio’s put a steroid injection in to see how it settles down. This morning it might be lot easier than it was yesterday.”

The Blues are without Aaron Cresswell, who is suspended for one game after last week’s red card, with Jewell hinting but not confirming that veteran ex-Millwall man Mark Kennedy will take his place at left-back.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are reported to have sent Paul Scholes to watch ex-Town striker Jordan Rhodes in action for Huddersfield against Scunthorpe on Tuesday. The 21-year-old took his Terriers goals tally for the season to 13, plus five more for Scotland’s U21s, as the game ended 2-2. A number of other Premier League clubs are also said to be keeping a watching brief.

Huddersfield are claimed to want £5 million for Rhodes, who cost £850,000 when he moved from Portman Road in the summer of 2009, with the Blues having negotiated a sell-on clause at an undisclosed but believed to be significant level.

Good work on the Rhodes sell-on clause - didn't realise that.

I think everyone would sooner have him back than 50% of the sell-on, right? :P

Yup, would definitely rather have him back. Would we get 50% of the sell-on if we bought him?

Love the "Delaney is more of a concern" statement. Too right, I poo myself every time the ball goes near him.

Worst player sale in our history, from a CEO who said himself he knew little about football.

itfc1981 the manager decides who he wants to buy and who he wants to sell ,the CEO then tries to action these . Rhodes has openly said he didnt want to leave even when he went to Huddersfield , but Keane refused to take his calls ,or is Rhodes just another bitter player with something against Keane like Whitbread,Walters,Yorke,D Wright,Delaney ?

Whats the betting Man Utd buy Jordan Rhodes & loan him straight away to Peterborough Utd for the second half of the season?

Surco72. That is well known but a strong CEO refuses a 'Light Brigade' request from a manager.

If we didn't sell Jordan Rhodes then Roy Keane might still be our manager.

That's how I'm ok with it.

However, £5 million £5 shmillion let's break the bank and get him back in January.

And Wickham.

And Gio.

It would be nice to know that the Rhodes sell on percentage is. We don't want to be thinking it is 50% of profit if it is really 5%!

The sale of Rhodes was one of the darkest days of supporting Ipswich I can remember, and I was 100% against the sale at the time. He did well everywhere on loan and it could have been a big season for him, after a good pre-season and being called "the most natural finisher at the club" by Keane...then he was gone.

There was a thread about his sell on clause on the forum a while back. Think it was either 20% or 25% that was being banded about. Rhodes has gone, think we should now spend our time trying to get Lavery to sign that deal or it'll be another one slipping the net!

It was bizarre. Rhodes wouldn't have set alight this league that season in my opinion, but I think he could have equalled Wickham's goal tally and continued his development. Natural goalscorers will score goals anywhere and he would be scoring if he were with us now!

Need Sonko for Millwall.

Can't put my finger on what midfield he's going to put out, if Kennedy plays that suggests that the diamond is unlikely.

Rhodes just another example of what a pig-headed, ignorant excuse of a manager Keane was.

ITFC4daprem :- The answer is Keane !

I thought that this was a news story primarily about Sonko!

Anyway, my sixpnce worth is that Sonko's return could turn a draw into a win or a defeat into a draw. He could either save us or gain us a goal.

Darius Henderson is a handful, especially in the air, and will need handling at the New Den. Equally, Sonko will give us options against their centre backs on our set pieces.

We need Sonko back. Potentially one of PJ's best signings. Miles better than the likes of Ellington and JET
