Sonko Out of Doncaster Clash
Sonko Out of Doncaster Clash
Tuesday, 1st Nov 2011 10:32

Defender Ibrahima Sonko has been ruled out of Saturday’s home game against Doncaster Rovers with the hamstring injury which forced him off during the weekend defeat at Millwall. The Blues also have doubts over Lee Bowyer (hamstring), Damien Delaney (foot), Keith Andrews (groin) and Nathan Ellington (calf).

Boss Paul Jewell confirmed that the Senegalese international is definitely out of the Rovers clash: "Sonko won't be fit for the weekend.

"He has got a grade two hamstring tear and he's been for a scan. Lee Bowyer is also having a scan, while Keith Andrews has got a tight groin, so we are carrying a few injuries.

"Nathan Ellington pulled his calf in the half-time warm-up at Millwall as well. There was no way Duke could have gone on as a sub on Saturday."

This makes todays reserve game all the more important time for Carson, Martin and Priskin to show what they can do

Shame!! He's been a great player so far this year.

Imagine having to phone in work to tell them you won't be in today as you have a tight groin.

How do you do a calf in a half-time warm up unless your legs are made of paper?

Great shame about Sonko. Very good player, but very injury prone. He's made more come backs already than Frank Sinatra.

The price you pay for a team of players whose ages in the main are much closer to thirty than twenty.

Shame about Sonko, but Andrews and Bowyer out might be a blessing in disguise. We can't keep playing 4 central midfielders every week, especially against sides with a bit of pace in the same area. Play Martin on the left and Carson or Jet on the right and tell them to work hard, track back and stake a claim.

Ingimarsson and Collins doesn't work. They're too similar. Sonko and Collins works because they're two different players, as would I think Delaney and Ingimarsson.

that will be another big loss then

Be good to see Carson wide right. Still not convinced about Martin though - he's pacy & works hard but end product disappoints. Could do worse here than leave Kennedy at left back and try Cresswell wide left, so he can get to the by line & deliver those great crosses.

Can't agree with that muhrensleftfoot, for me Cresswell's greatest strength is defending. Kennedy, from the highlights looked very poor at stopping crosses coming in etc compared to what we've seen all season from Cresswell. I do reckon Kennedy could do a job in defensive midfield though.

On the bright side sidelined players means that PJ will have no choice but to shake the team up a bit and try something new. Bullard and Leadbitter should remain as the core, with Edwards on the right and Carson or Martin out on the left. Ingy in for Sonks at CB please and O'Connor (rather than Kennedy) at LB.

Cresswell will be back for saturday so very much doubt O'Connor will be at LB.

Billy Sharp will be missing for Donny, his two day old son died on Saturday.

Sonko will be missed. However he is yet anopther PJ signing with a poor injury record. We should not be surprised that he is missing again.

Not really a big deal that Ellington and Delaney are missing though and to date, Bowyer has not really delivered (apart from West Ham).

Garv added 18:37 - Nov 1
Bowyer HAS delivered, he's been one of our best players in recent games. Another cheap jibe at PJ.
