Wright Rejoins Town For Third Spell
Wright Rejoins Town For Third Spell
Wednesday, 23rd Nov 2011 18:05

Keeper Richard Wright has rejoined the Blues for a third spell on a short-term contract until the end of the season. The 34-year-old left Town in the summer of 2010 when he was released by former boss Roy Keane but has been training with Paul Jewell’s squad for much of the time since leaving Sheffield United after one campaign.

Jewell says that his performances in training led to his deal: "Richard has been training with us this season and has done well. He has looked really sharp over the last few weeks.

“I know there were two or three clubs interested in taking him on this week so we've been speaking to him over the last day or so and I'm delighted that we've been able to agree a deal."

Ipswich-born Wright comes in as cover for on-loan Fulham man David Stockdale and Arran Lee-Barrett.

Meanwhile, we expect striker Tamás Priskin to complete his loan move to Derby County in the morning. As reported last night, the Hungarian will join the Rams on a one-month spell with a view to a permanent deal.

A disgrace and a joke.

This big eared fool should be no where near my club.

Good keeper, vastly superior to Lee-Barrett. Make Cropper third choice and Aaron can find a new club.

I'd feel more comfortable with Wright on the bench than Barrett.

Why??? Oh he is over 30. Makes sense now. Still looking at the youth then pj. Only looking. Perhaps the good young players don't want to come here as they don't see that they could progress here. Just a thought.

good news, always said he should be with us... Stockdale whilst being very good has been far from perfect; hopefully Wright will give him some competition.

Cue moans.

We all knew we were short in that area and many were calling for Wright to sign as a reliable, most likely cheap backup for Stockdale. But now, after a bad run of form it will be just another excuse for complaints about age and 'pace' (he is a keeper but that won't stop some on here).

How is there anything negative about this signing?

Who gives a flying **** about what the average age is? It means nothing! What matters is what they (most importantly outfield players) do on the pitch, not in the stats book.

Welcome back Wrighty.

Keaneish - my thoughts exactly

poobum - you talk nonsense

Good to see him back, a quality keeper in his day and hopefully someone Cropper can learn from. He wont let us down if called upon.

I have been thinking all season that we should sign Wright, as being stuck with only Lee-Barrett if Stockdale gets recalled would not do anything for my nerves!

Fulop was no better than Wright in my opinion, and Roy Keane probably wasted about £2M in that little exchange.

So, another stop-gap signing. Please Mr. Jewell can we sign one young player to get fans excited again?!

Age isn't such a concern with a gk, this is good cover, means we can relax a bit more about the recall clause on stockdale!

Noy my favourite player of all time but he loves the Club and would much rather he was between the sticks than ALB. No complaints here.

Fair play IMO. Decent keeper, loves the club albeit admittedly only a short term solution. He might only be a stop gap but I think most fans would agree an important one should Stockdale suddenly be recalled. Welcome back Wrighty.
