Healy's Contract Terminated
Healy's Contract Terminated
Wednesday, 23rd Nov 2011 18:15

Midfielder Colin Healy’s Town contract has been terminated by mutual consent. The 31-year-old joined the Blues from Cork City in the summer of 2009 for £70,000 but never really established himself at Portman Road, despite signing a one-year contract extension in the close season.

Boss Paul Jewell said: "Colin is a terrific pro but he's not had the first team football he was looking for this season.

"Agreeing to bring his contract to an end early gives him the opportunity to find himself a new club for the rest of the season and we wish him the best of luck."

Healy, who made 19 starts and 10 sub appearances for Town, scoring twice, made his only league appearance of the season in the recent 3-2 defeat to Doncaster in which he was substituted during the first half.

The former Ireland international subsequently made his frustrations known to Jewell and was left out of the 16 at Nottingham Forest.

A "good player" and a "terrific pro" apparently, but other than the Arsenal home match I can't ever say I saw him play well for Ipswich. Too slow and cumbersome unfortunately, and when given chances this season at home to Northampton and Doncaster he didn't take them. Maybe he was worth a punt as a cheap transfer, but it didn't work out and it was a mistake to renew his contract this summer. Oh well, all the best Colin.

Nothing against the guy, but it's time to clear out the deadwood and the Jedward. Healy is in the former category, Priskin is in the latter: comical but ultimately pointless.

This is because he got subbed, you heard it here first

Not surprised at all, the guy is a good footballer but sadly not good enough for the Championship. Arsenal apart his best performance for me was against Shrewsbury (A) in the league cup a couple of seasons back where he looked a class apart from his lesser talented team mates on that night. Probably confirms Div 1 or 2 for him or back to Scotland.

Not as good as Leadbitter ;)

I don't know about this, for me he wasn't really given enough of a chance, at least when you compare it with Leadbitter, who can play atrociously week after week and still get picked. Fair enough though, get him off the wage bill and get some quality in.

Well done Colin, you were never going to get a look in at playing 1st team football unless injuries to other players happened.
Didn't actually think that you were the worst player on the field when substituted against Doncaster
Good luck for the future and thanks for for your efforts, great professional who could have sat and seen out his contract. Respect you for that.
Hope you find a club suited to your position soon.

No big suprise I guess, never really found his feet here.
A slow, indifferent start to a town career, followed by flashes of quality and promise.
Thanks for all your efforts Colin and best of luck for the future!

Ok he never really made it here but he is not the worst on our books by any means. Good Luck Colin.

After his last substitution this was always going to happen!

Never really did understand why Keane bought him to be honest.

Rather him on the pitch than Bullard right now.

Never looked remotely up to this level. Poor judgement to give him another year; at least some more dead wood gone.

Stood up for himself like a man - treated abysmally by the so called Manager(people skills ??? ) in his last game for the Club.

Another shot in the foot for both 'Manager' and 'Club'.

Surely bought as a favour for Cork FC? Can't think of any other rational reason for signing him in the first place.

lifelongtownfan..if that's all you've got to offer don't bother. Healy may well have not been the best but as said in other posts, he gave more than other individuals that our in their twilight of their careers and plodding around in the blue and white.

Dumb ass

All the best Colin. Its a shame it never really worked out for him here but, in comparison to the likes of Priskin, he was definitely more value for money considering the small fee.
Just a shame what happened in his last appearance which doesn't reflect well on the manager

Sad really, player signs for next nothing, probably one of the lowest paid squad members, give a 100% on the rare occasions he plays, comes up way short at this level which is just one of those things - if your not good enough your not......., terminates contract which works well for both player and club, gets bag loads of grief??? Keep up the high calibre post folks............

Not much to add. Worth a punt at that price but i'd rather see Hyam and Drury given their shots especially seeing as Drury was a Jewell signing.

Never realised Healy was 31. No great loss but then he probably thinks the same about us at present after being humiliated against Doncaster by tactical naivety!
