Jewell Admits Not Many Pluses
Jewell Admits Not Many Pluses
Monday, 28th Nov 2011 07:38

Town boss Paul Jewell admitted that it was difficult to see too many pluses - other than there being plenty of the season still to go and another game at Burnley on Tuesday - after the Blues’ 3-2 defeat to Reading at Portman Road on Saturday, with the club in what he called “a dark place”.

Jewell said: “The pluses I can take are that there are 29 games left and we’ve got a game on Tuesday.

“It’s very difficult at the moment for Ipswich Town people to see any pluses, it’s a dark place we’re in at the minute.

“We have to get out of it, no one’s going to help us out, we have to fight and scrap and try and get a result from somewhere that turns us around.

“It’s not going to be a vintage performance from us at the moment, we’re going to have to nick a win. We should have nicked two wins out of the last two games and the whole table would have looked rosy. We know we’re making it difficult for ourselves.”

The increasingly under pressure boss told his players to start preparing for Tuesday’s trip to Turf Moor straight after the game: “What I’ve said to them is that we’ve got to go again on Sunday.

“Everybody’s culpable, people have got jobs to do, ie picking up people from set plays, and in the last two games they haven’t done them.

“There’s not too much to say other than we’re frustrated, we’ve got to start again on Sunday and look forward to the game on Tuesday because in football there’s no hiding place. You can’t run away from it, it’s there, it’s life and as low as I feel at the moment, I’ll face the music.”

at the moment its all that can be done, but i hope behind the scenes the work is going on to secure the right players to get us back in contention to looking something like a football team. I wonder how much of an effect all the off pitch dramas have affected things, ie the edwards affair, scotlands off pitch problems, we have havent done anything since chops scored 2 against brighton, then his problems were made public, nothing from the team since... i just wonder?.......COYB

PJ's comments are as predictable as the TWTD comments in reply. Roll on the next game, COYB!

2 games to turn it around jewell. If we loose our next 2 games we will be in relagation trouble & he will have to go as far as I'm concerned. Hopefully that won't be the case because I think he has brought in some top players. We just need a win tues night.
Come on town!!

One plus is I won't be wasting money on a half season ticket, unless of course Jewell had gone before Christmas.

Well PJ you have been given the resources, the money, the players you want and time to show signs of progress. Unfortuantly its all gone pear shape and is a mess, a bit like Derby and Sheffield wdnesday.
Is Evans going to let this club down with another poor selection of manager to replace you, or will he get it right.

We are deep in it, make no mistake about that. Sonko in! I hope he's fit for Burnley; at least that would give us a chance. It's the "defence" stoopid! COYB.

Jewell is making errors but his players need to hold there hands up too. Bullard was awful when he came on and was running around like a headless chicken.
Andrews and Collins will never sign for us, just can't see it getting any better only worse come Jan.
Any money available come Jan needs to be spent building from the back not the front.

Nearly a year on since PJ joined us, and it's clear no progress has been made. The 1st half on Saturday was dreadful - two woeful sides failing to excite a very quiet crowd. If PJ is really the man to take us to the Premier League, then I think there would be some signs of improvement from Keane's disastrous tenure by now. Marcus, cut your losses and wield the axe.

The club has been in a bad place for a few years. Not exactly PJ's fault. I tink that the main problem is that the top two people at at the club are not football men. ME saved us from financial meltdown….can't see what Clegg brings to the table.

Whilst I am losing a bit of faith in Paul Jewell to turn this around, sacking the manager isn't the answer on it's own, we will still have a bunch of players who have an E minus for effort. There is a sickness about this squad that I don't like, it's not just their ability but there commitment I question. A long dark winter ahead I fear, with the dreaded R word at the end of it...mind you didn't do Narrich any harm!!!

1 massive plus is that leadboots is injured! Could never see him being dropped so this is a blessing in disguise! Upwards and upwards town!!

We need to sign a top class right-back, a commanding centre-half...

and Jordan Rhodes...

yeah we are on a bad run and people are saying jewell out! but i honestly think changing manager wont help, jewell has got plenty of experience and i think we will come good in the end, we have a strong squad, one of the best in the league, just be patient guys theres over half a season to go :) COYB tomorrow at burnley, if any1 is going see you there

Paul Jewell taking Chopra off in the last 2 games cost us 6 points, both times when we were in front, at that stage of the game we should be playing the ball up to him to run in the corners and waste some time.
Our last 4 defeats have been against some of the poorest team in the divsion. WE ARE IN DEEP TROUBLE.

I for one went down early at half time,Blimey !! there were more people down there than on the terraces, and also there was more atmosphere down there than on the terraces. Near the end when Jewell kicked the water bottle in to the crowd (mindlessly) it was a good job a lot of fans had already gone, otherwise who knows..
Also why were security staff lined up in front of us( brittania stand) at the end of the game when Jewell and staff walked off ???? it was like we were the away supporters !!!!

Well it seems to be post-Sonko time.

Can we get back to basics. Good to hear the commentary on the last corner"...need to touch, get up close and make sure YOUR man doesn't score..."

PJ last week you were saying we are only 3 points off where we were last year as if thats a plus now its even worse i seriously wonder if you even know what goes on at the club you get asked about trialists and you dont know who they are you are completely disinterested in our youth and arrogant enough to blame everyone but you. Do us a favour man up and walk you are not the man the fill Keanes shoes and never will be
