Wright Out of Burnley Trip
Wright Out of Burnley Trip
Monday, 28th Nov 2011 17:33

Keeper Richard Wright is out of Town's match at Burnley tomorrow having picked up a knock, joining David Stockdale on the sidelines. Arran Lee-Barrett will come into the starting line-up with Cody Cropper on the bench.

Wright appears to have been one of a number of players manager Paul Jewell said had been suffering with a niggle in the wake of Saturday's home defeat to Reading, the former England man's third debut for the Blues.

The 34-year-old has had little luck with injuries in recent months with both his two appearances for former club Sheffield United last season cut short by a knee problem which required surgery in the summer.

Lee-Barrett will be making his first league appearance since April, although he did play in the Carling Cup defeat to Northampton earlier in the season.

Speaking earlier today, manager Paul Jewell said Lee-Barrett was understandably disappointed when overlooked in favour of Wright at the weekend: “I had a chat with him on Friday. He wasn’t happy about it and I didn’t expect him to he happy about it, but it’s up to Arran to get in to the team, as simple as that.

“He was disappointed. He hasn’t played a lot of football, neither has Richard, but I just felt that Richard has been outstanding in training, and that’s what I said to Arran.

“Arran’s obviously hugely disappointed but that’s my decision. I don’t pick a team on sentiment, I pick a team on what I see Monday to Friday or what I feel might be right and that’s what I felt was right on Saturday.”

With Stockdale still out with his shoulder injury, Lee-Barrett now has the chance to show his manager he was wrong not to look to him at the weekend.

Stockdale tweeted that he hopes to be back in action at Playford Road this week and sent a message of support to his latest understudy: "Hoping to do some more training this week, so back soon. Sure Arron will show his doubters wrong! Good luck ALB!"

Cropper, an 18-year-old US U20 international, was previously on the bench for the Northampton match in the Carling Cup but is yet to make his first team debut.

Meanwhile, Burnley have announced that there will be a minute's applause prior to tomorrow's game in tribute to Gary Speed.

I don't believe it. I think this is a ruse so he can blame poor ALB for the inevitable defeat tomorrow night.

Jewell Out.

PJ said in August that he wanted another keeper. He did NOTHING. Then disaster strikes and all PJ can do - all he knows - is to erm, sign an injury prone, has been freebie. Sound familiar? Jewell is an absolute joke. He should never work in management again - let alone be in charge at ITFC.

ALB is a very poor keeper and why PJ gave him a new TWO year deal is beyond me.

The moan squad are out again. Moaninf about everything when you could be positive about things for a chance.

Cheer up people, life happens. Wright got injured and now it's upto ALS to make a statement as to how good he is.

Burnley 4 -1 Ipswich is a nice 33-1 with Skybet at the minute. Seems like a sound investment of my £10

5/5 defeats - what's to be positive about? Please someone tell me - because it seems the majority of people have grasps that PJ is NOT building a squad - just has been injury prone freebies and what a surprise, now they have a bumper contract they are injured. ITFC is in a dark place and PJ is to blame. Far worse than Jim/Roy - that's according to the statistics and the facts. Not the world of make believe which a small few are chosing to believe. PJ will RUIN US. Wake up and look at the evidence.

I think it is harsh to have a go at Paul Jewell over the goalkeeping situation when he has brought an England squad player into the squad. Stockdale unfortunately got injured, Wright unfortunately got injured, so we call on our number three goalkeeper. Lee-Barrett is not great, but what third choice keeper at a Championship club is?

As for Jewell picking up "injury prone freebies", does anyone think he chooses to do this over spending millions of pounds like Keane did? He is working to a tight budget, and had to replace nearly the whole team. If Jewell is sacked and a new man brought in (which would cost loads of money, again), what good could a new man do with similarly limited funds? Give Jewell time.

Put Cody Cropper in goal he will not let you down .Just how many of you have watched him play? I have He will be our future No1, No doubt about that. But he is still young as yet, but He has been waiting his chance for some time.Perhaps this is it? If he comes on give him the biggest cheer that we can, show him he is Ipswich's goalkeeper and that we are all behind him. If ALB comes in do the same for him, as he is also Towns goalkeeper. COYB
