Murray Out to Emulate Success of Wickham and Rhodes
Murray Out to Emulate Success of Wickham and Rhodes

Striker Ronan Murray says he hopes his loan spell at Swindon Town can help him to emulate the success of his former Blues academy team-mates Connor Wickham and Jordan Rhodes. The Irish U21 international was Sunderland frontman Wickham’s regular strike partner as they came through the ranks and also played alongside Rhodes prior to his move to Huddersfield.

Murray said: “I played alongside Connor Wickham from U14s all the way through to playing in the first team together as well.

“Jordan was also at Ipswich at youth level and he was great. He just didn’t get his chances there but moved on and now he is doing really well for himself.

“I look at those two and I put myself in that bracket and believe I can achieve a lot in my career. The aim is to kick on now and start scoring goals for Swindon.”

The 20-year-old says getting senior games under his belt with the Robins will do him the world of good: “I feel I will benefit massively from playing first team football because when you are playing reserve games you do not have the crowd.

“It is just a different feeling. Everyone is up for the games, you have to be up for it and no one gives less than 100 per cent, so it is a great feeling playing senior football, especially when you win.”

hmm i think you need to tell our first team they should all be 'up for the games' cause i think many are turning up for their pay packet and little else! Not blaming PJ for that, he has brought in quality players on paper, they just dont seem to be fulfilling their potential. Hope you are very successful and i hope its at Portman Road but sadly i fear you will do exactly what you say and follow Connor and Jordon right out of the door....

"Murray Out to Emulate Success of Wickham and Rhodes"

Get away from ITFC ASAP? ;)

In all seriousness I hope he gets a few chances in our first team in 2012, as by then the season will be another that's gone to the dogs.

Now theres a statement of intent from the young man! I wonder if he gets the feeling that he's not rated by the club as a long term prospect and is looking for an out over the summer? Will we talking about Murray the same way as some posters do about Rhodes i wonder?

would like to think at 20 he would be knocking on the door this season. Shame as i would imagine he'd have found himself on the bench a few times already this season if we could still name 7.

I like your attitude Ronan. Get some experience under your belt and then come back and dazzle.
