Clegg: Jewell Still Has Owner's Backing
Clegg: Jewell Still Has Owner's Backing
Wednesday, 30th Nov 2011 10:37

Town chief executive Simon Clegg says he and club owner Marcus Evans still have confidence in manager Paul Jewell despite the Blues’ run of six successive defeats, the latest last night’s 4-0 thrashing at Burnley.

Clegg said: "Marcus has still got huge confidence in the manager and that he can turn this around.

"We're all devastated,” he continued. “This is a really poor run of games we're on at the moment.

"Let's not forget we had a good run only about five weeks ago. I am convinced we've got the right players to turn this around.

"And if anyone can do it, Paul Jewell can. I've still got a lot of confidence in Paul Jewell. I think he's a top manager.

"It's not a comfortable time at the moment. And all I can do is assure all our loyal fans that every effort is being made to turn this around quickly."

WHY??? I have no faith in him and I don't have as much money as Evans!! If I had seen someone spend a fortune and had this return I would not be happy, and would be looking to change. It pains me to say it but, we are going down unless changes are made, very quickly.

Comments like this from someone in Mr Clegg's position are usually followed up a couple of weeks later by a statement from the same man saying that the Manager is leaving!!!

Completely unbelievable. If not sacked by Satuday - all ITFC fans should stay away. PJ is a joke. If ME fails to sack him then we all need to make a stand.

Even if we beat watford - it will not make up for the dreadful results delievered by PJ. The club need to start listening to the fans and the vast majority have had enough. I can not see how PJ can stay on as manager after this. Worst run of results since 1994.

It's all well and good Clegg pointing to a decent run a few weeks back - but what happened before then:

Ipswich 1 Norwich 5
Swansea 4 Ipswich 1
Leicester 4 Ipswich 2
Ipswich 1 Northampton 2
Ipswich 2 Southampton 5
Ipswich 0 Hull 1
Peterboro 7 (seven) Ipswich 1

PJ is clueless and the board need to wake up and accept they made a mistake. How can anyone have confidence in a manager who delivers this rubbish?

If I were in Clegg's & Jewell's shoes, I'd be walking before being seriously hounded out. It's got to that stage, I'm afraid.

Lets hope that ME says that Clegg still has his backing, so that way we can get rid of both of them!

GOOD! All you 'fans' need to get a grip. Just because we lose a few games doesnt mean the manager should go every time. This has always been the Ipswich Town way and its ridiculous. Stick by him! COYB

I do not have an answer to the dilema of ITFC but truly wonder if the problem goes a great deal deeper that the manager (who ever he may be).????

'And all I can do is assure all our loyal fans that every effort is being made to turn this around quickly' quote the General.

Please, General, explain what that means. The overwhelming evidence is to the contrary. You're doing eff all.

Eg:

Team is leading but loses at the death. Monday morning training and a sensible manager says: here's how we protect our precious lead and take the points.

Not at ITFC.

Next match: team is leading but loses at the death.

Cue the idiot General.

SuperReuser- the "Ipswich Way" that will lead us into League 1 you mean?
I have never supported sacking managers, but you have got to look at the manner of our defeats- 4-0, 3-2, 3-2, 3-2, 4-1- we are conceding a horrendous amount of goals. And more worryingly, we don't look like we have the ability to score even half the amount we are shipping.
At the moment, when we concede, we lose. Whether we are winning or drawing or already losing. We are approaching the halfway stage of the season and have 20 points. You'll need over 50 to stay in this division and at the moment I don't see where they are going to come from.
And this is Jewell's team- the players he is tearing into and calling a "pub team" are players he brought into the club, players he labelled "winners", "goalscorers", "cool calm experienced players" when he signed them.
He looks lost and sounds lost. Clegg is a very poor chief executive of a football club and Marcus Evans and the money that saved us is being very poorly represented.
The club has a rot at its roots and I fear for us more than I have ever feared for us in the last 5 years in terms of relegation prospects.

If you read Clegg's statement you can rip nearly all of it to pieces with simple counter arguments.

He's a top manager Clegg?? Loosing six on the bounce, letting in sixteen goals in the process and not even mustering up a single shot in 93 minutes of football is the sign of a top manager is it??

God help us!
