Bowyer Injury Leaves Town Short of Central Midfield Options at Hull
Bowyer Injury Leaves Town Short of Central Midfield Options at Hull
Wednesday, 4th Jan 2012 14:38

Town have confirmed that midfielder Lee Bowyer is a doubt ahead of Saturday’s third round FA Cup tie at Hull City with the groin injury he suffered just before half-time during the home defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Bowyer’s injury — which manager Paul Jewell said on Monday could sideline the 35-year-old for around a fortnight - leaves the Blues short of central midfield options with Keith Andrews — whose loan from Blackburn is up after Saturday’s match — unlikely to be back from his torn hamstring, although he has been given permission to play by his parent club.

Andy Drury is unavailable having played for loan club Crawley in the competition earlier in the season at a time when it appeared he was unlikely to be required by the Blues with the Blues then also having Colin Healy in their squad.

Jimmy Bullard could start alongside skipper Grant Leadbitter against his old club with the illness which forced him out of Monday’s match not expected to sideline him for too long, while Mark Kennedy or perhaps Luke Hyam could come into the 18.

Striker Jason Scotland may also be back after missing the last two games with a hamstring problem, although having been close to making it for both matches.

Midfielder Jaime Peters is available as he wasn't involved in the FA Cup with his loan club Bournemouth.

For God sake grow up all of you and stop squabbling like girlies (apologies to any female supporters, no offence meant!) we have what we have, none of you are qualified to run the team, so be a supporter or walk, you have the choice. Sure times are tough, but moaning about it never did anyone any good, all we can do is support the team through thick and thin!!!!

CornardBlue - equally don't you ever think you speak for me, or many other 'real' supporters.
Who do you think you are ?? - to assess a 'real' supporter as someone who will attend every match come what may, and be served up week after week with RUBBISH, not complain, and keep smiling.

There is only one description for you people in my opinion (equally as good as anyone else's) REMEMBER - and that is you are LOSERS and nothing more.

And probably never won a bl##dy thing in your lives. Sad but True.

One very sad outcome of this current (allegedly) controlling regime, ME,SC,PJ, is that it has certainly extinguished all true IPSWICH PEDIGREE and split supporters like never before.

Not at all sure it will ever return to how it was for so,so long.

He even looks much older than 35. In fact, he looks completely knackered.

Let the LOSERS take this Club where it's heading - maybe that's what the BIG problem is - too many of them at ALL levels.

I keep trying to give you the benefit of the doubt as, sometimes, you say something sensible. That equates to about 1% of the time, the rest is utter bull I'm afraid. Who the hell are you to claim you're a 'real' fan and the voice of 'many'?? It's all about opinions, of which we are all allowed to air.

What 'alfromcol' has said regarding certain fans buying up tickets if we were to win and draw a top side is right. Are you saying, in the worst case scenerio, that if Town were to be relegated then the stands would be full? I very much doubt they would. Why? Because so-called supporters are only here when everything is rosy! To prove that point, if Town were to be promoted, then the stadium would be at its capacity and not at the level it is currently.

Surely you can even admit that. Unless of course your uneducated brain is struggling to understand.

Too many fickle people are mouthing off and deserting us when the going gets tough. IDIOTS

Those who think it would somehow be a good thing to lose should remember that Ipswich Town is a football club and the purpose of a football club is to win football matches (yes h32; I know that is a statement of the obvious, but some need to be reminded of the obvious). That said trying out one or two of the younger first team players might be tried (although Mr Jewell will probably consider that a radical notion).

Well said and well reasoned.

As I have said on many occasions, I like many others, (h32 please note) I am not happy with a lot of what is going on on the field at the moment, but it acheives nothing to call for Tom, Dick and Harry et al to resign, get out, f off etc etc. Just because we are not extreme in our views, in calling for other human beings to lose their jobs because our football team is not winning games, how does this make us losers??? (Answer required)

h32 your claim about the present regime splitting the supporters as never before - doesn't have to be the case. You and your ilk could continue to support the club and hence no split at all.

However, I expect you to keep being negative until we reach the promised land wherever that is.

Just to make it clear, I am not happy with the current league position, number of goals we are shipping nor the performance of some of the players. Nor I might add, all the pointless moaning on this site.

On one hand you want to see him give some of the young lads a try as The FA Cup isn't important but winning games is and a decent result up there would do wonders for the confidence. Luke Hyam has got to get a look in, i liked him when he got in last season but Jewell doesn't seem to fancy him, shame.

When you knowingly buy injury-prone has beens you have to expect this. PJ is 100% to blame. He decided to rely on these type of players AND loans - many on here told PJ so - loanees go back ... then you are short of players and back to square one. All would be okay if we had a manager who forward planned and had players lined up from 1 January. Sadly we have Paul Jewell - possibly one of the worst managers in the league.

Disappointing that the guy is even at the club. Faith in Marcus Evans has all but gone. Thought he would do the right thing this time - but no - he sticks by PJ. Very poor. Dark days for this club. As I predicted in April, we will have around 12K fans soon - all because of one man PJ. A disaster.

For those of us who by virtue of age cannot remember some of the other 'dark days' - and there have been quite a lot - I will just offer up that there were several seasons in the '80s when 12,000 was a good crowd; I can remember in particular a Saturday afternoon in August when around 9,300 were all that could be persuaded to attend (yes, I know it was only Port Vale). I can also remember Sir Bobby calling the supporters 'Zombies', resulting in protests being staged on matchdays. It has not always been sweetness and light, even in the good old days

I shouldn't bank on too many new arrivals if the arrogance shown by SC on tonights Look East interview is any thing to go by. No wonder we can't get decent players through the door - if only to show off our newly painted turnstiles!

tractorboy2434 added 20:45 - Jan 4
Anyone who saw the Look East interview will by now have realised that what matters at PR is the colour scheme of the turnstiles and how nice the concourse looks, as for any thought of stopping the rot forget it, what an absolute joke that bloke is, is it any wonder where we find ourselves. I don't think he even knows what a relegation battle is but he is about to find out.

Last chance for Hyam weather PJ plays him or not

If he plays and can sit infront of our leaky defence and stop their runners from midfield we have a chance.

If he is not picked he may aswell pack his bags now because PJ is never going to play him

Same for Ainsley play him with Edwards ahead in a wide midfield role

Casanovacrow, you can't have been there on Monday, Delaney was abysmal and 'Leadboots' actually had a fairly solid game, nothing world breaking but not many mistakes either. I do agree with you though that we need to start bringing the young players in slowly, therefore we need the experiance there too.

h32/truthhurts - it's getting really tiring hearing about all these 'losers' and 'true fans'. truthurts is sounding far more reasonable because his points are being backed up. h32, all you do is make a claim, what do you think we ought to do to change all of this? Are you calling for us to completely re-shape the club? Perhaps some people are tired of change and short term reactions to long term problems. Since Evans arrived, that's all we've seen. Where are we going to import this new winning team, board and manager from? Regardless, we're all fans here, we all want what's best for the club, let's stop trying to cause fights, which is all you, h32, ever seem interested in doing, don't pretend your posts aren't just provocative.

jas, bowyer wasn't a has-been last year. He's also barely missed any games throuh injury. I'd hold your horses until the end of January. We still have drury, hyam and leadbitter and we were unlucky to find Andrews injured, or else he'd have still possibly been available. You can't forward plan all of these injuries I don't think any except Bullards and Sonko's were even likely, let alone inevitable. Lots of people seem to forget that along with Bullard, Bowyer and Sonko came Cresswell, Drury and JET, three younger players who aren't has-beens at all but are reasonably new to this stage. Also, we don't have 12k fans, we will 12k seats. All this really affects is the money coming in, this will need the board to act in order to bring back the ticket sales and income, so you may just get your wish, it doesn't hinder anything, those fans will all flood straight back when we string a couple of wins together again. I don't see why you're so surprised, Evans appoints people and then sticks with them right until they could do no worse, you might be stuck with Jewell for longer yet, I'd rather hope he brings in some quality rather than waste away January waiting to see him leave!

People calling for Murray to start on Saturday but isn't he cup tied after playing for Swindon in the last round?
