Players Vote to Strike
Players Vote to Strike
Tuesday, 23rd Oct 2001 08:23

Just one of Town's squad of 35 professional players failed to back the players' strike Another two are undecided while the rest are in favour of industrial action over the PFA's share of TV revenues.

One player, who wished to remain anonymous for fear of possible reprisals at the club, is quoted as saying: "It is fair to say the vast majority of players are voting to support the strike. We are united as a team and we will stick together on this issue. But it is important to stress that not one of us actually wants to strike. We would dearly love for this issue to be resolved and the only way for that to happen is for the Premier League to actually sit down with the Gordon Taylor and offer a better deal."

The vote will come as a blow to David Sheepshanks who has probably been the most outspoken chairman on the issue, speaking out against the strike and becoming embroiled in a TV discussion with Gordon Taylor a few weeks back.
