Town Target Crawley Striker
Town Target Crawley Striker
Thursday, 26th Jan 2012 16:00

Crawley striker Tyrone Barnett is on Town boss Paul Jewell’s lengthy wish list but is not one of the five bids currently on the table. The 26-year-old has attracted a lot of attention during the Red Devils’ impressive first season in the Football League.

Barnett was a youth player with West Brom before dropping into non-league with Rushall Olympic, Telford, Willenhall Town and Hednessford. He broke into the Football League with Macclesfield in the summer of 2010.

After 13 goals in 50 starts and one sub appearance in his only season with the Silkmen, the 6ft 3in tall frontman moved on to Crawley for £150,000 last summer.

So far this season Barnett has scored 13 goals in 28 starts and one sub appearance for the League Two high flyers, attracting the interest of clubs from higher divisions. Fulham, Wigan and Stoke were all reported to be keeping an eye before Christmas and Blackpool agreed a fee approaching £1 million late last week.

Speaking earlier this week, Crawley manager Steve Evans said his club had received several bids for the striker but with only the Seasiders’ accepted up to that point: “We received a number of written offers from Championship clubs and big clubs in League One for Tyrone, but the only offer my board of directors accepted was from Blackpool.

“Following a few days of telephone discussions with Ian Holloway and latterly chairman Karl Oyston, a transfer fee was agreed which was close on £1 million, and there were further incentives for Crawley when Tyrone had been successful.”

After talks, Evans says the player decided against a switch to Bloomfield Road: “Tyrone and his representatives obviously did not think it was right for him and it is always his prerogative to say no to a move at this time.

“As his manager I am delighted he is still with us and I just wished the transfer window closed today. The likes of Tyrone will always be subject to offers.”

Barnett is understood to prefer a switch to a club in the south and is unlikely to turn down a move to the Blues if the Blues firm up their interest.

We understand that the striker isn’t one of the five bids revealed by manager Paul Jewell this morning and may be viewed as an alternative option if one of the current offers doesn’t come off, perhaps suggesting that 21-year-old Hungarian striker Márkó Futács is the third Pompey target.

Just let me know when we sign someone, this linked and targeting is getting very tiresome..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I reckon we'll end up with a couple of loans,
Cornardblue, couldn't agree more, Plus Clegg would probably offer him a 5 year deal.

I pointed this player out a few weeks ago when there was a story about Tubbs and I said this player would be the better option.....not many people had heard of him when I mentioned him.

Fell through at Blackpool because Blackpool wouldn't pay, what they thought, were excessive agents fees.

Márkó Futács? Haven't we learned our lesson about over rated Hungarians? Great name though, I could use it every time he misses an open goal and not get in trouble with the wife

Yes please get him in! Height and mobility

We are all gutted about Rhodes but it's happened. You can thank the Dark Lord and Clegg for that, both new in their respective jobs at the time. Clegg knew even less than he does now, whereas Keane - enough said

It is just wonderfull we are looking to put some new blood into the squad however a new front man is not the answer.
Gone are the days with Bent and Kuqi out doing teams 6-4 and 4-2. We are leaking as many goals but will never be able match 40 goals between 2 players.
We can score 1 or 2 a game but we need to stop giving teams 3 goals a game.
So in conclusion, stop looking for front men and make sure we get the CB and RB we need.

Crawley could very well be playing Ipswich next season in League One. So I do not believe Tyrone Barnett would want to come to Ipswich.

Give me Kris Boyd...
And McManus (I won't let this one drop!) a bit of Scottish fight through the core of our soft side. Anyone with international pedigree would do wonders in our squad at the mo if we're planning in turning largely to youth!!

Glad PJ is getting his priorities sorted out...worse defence in the country, lets get a striker. Good logic there Pauly

I have a funny feeling that we won't bring anyone on a permanent basis, why, because I don't think jewell's job is as safe as the club make out, a defeat on Tuesday will result in "jewell's contract terminated by mutual consent" just my thoughts!!!

Could be a long term replacement for Jason Scotland? Would prefer we were looking at their centre back Kyle McFadzean, who is highly rated.

I wish people would also cut out some of the negativity, which isn't helping anything. Jewell has been unlucky that few of his signings have paid off, but there has always been a certain logic behind them. The club has been badly let down by some of its senior players this year but, even if no one comes in, the players there should be good enough to keep us up if they can get their act together. Time for them to start earning those new contracts...

Don't get me Wrong I'm still behind jewell but I though a priority would be getting the defence sorted :/ our club has gone To pot!

Is he good up enough to come and play or do we have to loan him back to his friends until he feels like he can cope?

dirtydingusmagee added 21:49 - Jan 26
with Chopra wallowing in his life woe,s and showing nothing of the player we were needing id say this could be a good thing, but the whole team needs bloody sorting ,

I'd be very happy to see Futacs. Big, young, powerful, surely someone that could boost our attack and at least give us a target that at the moment we don't have.

....just read on BBC website that Crawley have "signed 20-year-old Arsenal striker Sanchez Watt on loan for the rest of the season"........striker in....striker out?????
