Jewell Watches Pompey Trio In Action - Updated
Jewell Watches Pompey Trio In Action - Updated
Saturday, 28th Jan 2012 17:20

Town boss Paul Jewell was at London Road to watch his trio of Portsmouth targets — Jason Pearce, Joel Ward and Stephen Henderson — play the full 90 minutes as Pompey beat Peterborough United 3-0 in the Championship this afternoon, Pearce (pictured) heading home the second from a corner.

Talks between the clubs are understood to be continuing with the Blues believed to have offered £2 million for the three players.

Elsewhere, Tyrone Barnett, another player being eyed by the Blues, was in the Crawley side which won 1-0 at Hull City in the fourth round of the FA Cup. We understand Town had a scout watching the game.

Crewe striker, nick Powell seems history. He's not big , strong and doesn't score a shed full of goals . He's 17, and is a flair player.

I assume BlueLady meant Crawley.

Still, there was never going to be any movement today, not sure how much there'll be on Sunday. That leaves Monday, giving us a day to sort things out if it goes tits up. Except that we're playing Tuesday. Possibly against Carlos Tevez, since I'm hearing rumours he's heading back before the end of the window. Not much time left.

By heading back, I mean of course back to West Ham.

Let's really hope we get them. I wonder if there is a plan B in case not though, as there are three days left until the transfer window closes and the manager will be busy getting the team ready for the West Ham match. We could do with a second centre back to go with Pearce really, as Delaney, Sonko and Smith haven't looked up to much over recent weeks.

Listening to Ray Crawford on BBC Radio Suffolk today, he really rates these guys, reckon they are the cream of their side, none of them want to leave Pompey...

So I rate our chances at just above zilch.

I really don't think we'll get any of these players signed up at all, let alone by Tuesday. We'll end up with more Premier reserve crud on loan and continue our free fall to Div 1.

Sorry for the pessimism!

If we really were going to sign these lads and all had been agreed surely they would not of played today risking injury it is looking unlikely any updates Phil?

What's the betting that 'plan B' involves prem rejects on either loan/permanent

Ipswich24 has it spot on, surely if a deal was on the table & the clubs were close to agreeing a deal, these players wouldn't have played today. I just don't see this trio deal coming off, the clock is ticking........

bluelady added 18:19 - Jan 28
Without them they couldn't field a team evidently.......

They could of fielded a team they must have reserves and youths. If it was that important to them selling the players to us they would NOT of played

bluelady added 18:40 - Jan 28
Ipswich24 but they don't want to sell the players do they but they may have no choice..... not saying we will sign but playing today means little imo. Perhaps even putting in shop window to encourage other bidders?

Agree with bluelady (as usual). Appleton is doing his best to hang onto what he has, it's the financial guys who want to sell. Especially considering that Cala might still buy the club, the manager's going to do his best to win matches, and it's business as usual until the phone call comes in telling Appleton they've gone.

They needed to play as their squad is so small, plus administration is still likely whether we buy or not so they need all the points they can get.

I can't see all three coming, but 2 - Pearce and Henderson

casanovacrow added 18:52 - Jan 28
they will only sell them at the last moments of the transfer window if they cant find a buyer.

based on todays result we should sign all 11 Crawley players in exchange for our shower of sh*te.

Portsmouth will string us along until the last minute, it's in their interest, not just financially (waiting for higher bids) but also the longer they keep us waiting on this deal, then the less chance we have of getting in other targets. Come the end of the season they could well be fighting against relegation along with us, so they will not want us to strengthen our defence, I just hope pj and co have a plan B!

wherescounago added 19:03 - Jan 28
Pompey will be saved at the very last second when someone will come in with a load of money and those three players will stay exactly where they are and be faithful to their cause! We will end up with the unknown from Hearts and possibly the defender from Falkirk before we go into the loan market and sign several over the hill injury prone has-beens. The more I think about it the more I am convinced that Evans is trying to run our club into the ground, wants to see us go down and get out as quickly as possibly.

Bezzer added 19:14 - Jan 28
Do we really need Ward? Surely we are after pacey widemen, ward is more of a utility Midfielder currently playing left Midfield. Let's not be fooled into thinking he will be our saviour at the back. We already have a Midfielder at RB. Let's get specialist players at the club, that goes for every position from a new Striker to a proper Winger to a proper CB and RB.
