Crawley Boss Evans Reveals Barnett Bids
Crawley Boss Evans Reveals Barnett Bids
Sunday, 29th Jan 2012 23:54

Crawley boss Steve Evans has revealed that his club has received “three or four” offers for striker Tyrone Barnett, who we reported was very much on the Blues’ radar on Thursday. Barnett helped the League Two Red Devils to a 1-0 FA Cup victory over Hull City on Saturday with Town represented at the KC Stadium.

Evans said: "When we left Crawley [on Friday] I think there were three or four bids for Matt Tubbs the directors were sitting on, and three or four for the other striker, Tyrone Barnett, and four or five for [defender] Kyle McFadzean, who I thought was the best player on the pitch by a mile today."

Blues boss Paul Jewell recently dismissed reports that Tubbs was a Blues target but we understand Barnett is definitely on the Town manager’s list of potential signings before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.

Barnett recently turned down a switch to Blackpool after the Seasiders had had an offer understood to be around the £750,000 mark accepted by Crawley.

The 26-year-old’s situation may be slightly complicated by Crawley flying to Portugal for a training camp shortly after Saturday’s match.

Get:
Pearce, Henderson, Barnett, Ward and Stevenson and we've done an excellent shopping month...
(Iknow we've signed Stevenson)

Things could get interesting tomorrow. Would be great to think that one of the four or five bids for McFadzean was from us as well.

A lot of eggs in that Pompey basket. If we don't get those, it won't be a good January. Loan market here we were come.

Sounds more like panic loans will rule the day, it ain't easy landing these players with the kind of situation we are in.

PJ please keep working on it!

Even if pompey accept the offer that's on the table the players can still refuse to leave and to be honest I don't think they will and that's not nothing to do with our position in the league. But i hope I'm proved wrong.

We certainly need a striker. Just one loanee and a CM to show for the transfer window so far. Very disappointing. PJ and Clegg need to do better than this.

Was at the KC on saturday and Crawley looked very impressive against a pretty mediocre Hull side. They dominated the game and were pretty unlucky to only score one on the day. Barnett looked impressive, ran his socks off and had some good touches. Definitely able to hold his own at this level. Got to say also that Torres was their best player, and Tubbs took his goal very well. Would be happy to see any of them in blue and white though.

Can he play centre half? Is that not our priority?
