Pearce Thought He Might Be On His Way
Pearce Thought He Might Be On His Way
Wednesday, 1st Feb 2012 14:37

Portsmouth defender Jason Pearce has admitted that he thought he might have been on his way out of Pompey prior to the transfer window closing last night. The Blues, who had a £1 million offer accepted for his team-mates Joel Ward and Stephen Henderson before they turned down the move after failing to agree personal terms, were amongst three Championship clubs to have bids for the 24-year-old centre-half rebuffed.

Pearce said: "I have to admit, I thought there could have been a chance I could have been going. My head has been all over the place over the past couple of days. I didn't want to go but I thought I may be forced out because of the club's problems.

"Luckily though, the club wanted to keep me. People already know I wanted to stay and be part of, hopefully, a good future at the club.

"The manager made it very clear he didn't want to let me go and I was keen to stay. I knew it might not have come down to my decision with the club needing funds. Thankfully, I'm still here though, which is just what I wanted."

Speaking after last night’s 5-1 victory over West Ham, Blues boss Paul Jewell wasn’t ruling out looking at the situation again when Football League clubs are able to sign players on loan in a week's time. In the case of the Pompey trio presumably on the basis of initial loans with the deals being made permanent in the summer.

They don't wanna play for us so just move on! Not worth paying silly wages just to tempt them. They have made the choice to stay at Pompey so let them sink with the club!!

If he and his two mates are so thick they would rather stay at a club where there is a huge risk of not being paid then we don't need them.

How on earth are Portsmouth going to survive without selling players? I don't think they raised very much at all during the window did they?

Hello Pearce you may have made a horrendous choice if we manage to stay up while you three musketeers sink into league 1 with Pompey given the unstabiliy at the club from now till May!

Anything can happen just ask us here how we end up with 8 pts out of possible 48 ( before our victory over west ham) it's just unbelievable!

By that time please do not come knocking on our doors, maybe we'll pay a pound for your transfer fee and your wages down by 50%! Go away suckers!!!

If Pearce becomes a free agent, do you really think he'll come to Ipswich? He'll have his choice of clubs.

Frase1987 - PFC the club didn't want to sell him, the administrator of CSI (their parent company) wanted to sell him. Not the same thing at all.

In fairness though Pompey never accepted a bid for him, so its not like he had any choice of leaving. Saying his head was all over the place means he most likely wanted to leave, the other bit he probably added to please his current employers.

Your loss pal, you should have jumped ship to a better club while you had the chance. Good Luck with the next paycheck.

Sindre, completely agree with you!
I've had my moans about us not signing players and I only want realistic targets coming in, but I only want players in who want to play, look at what we can do with hungry players. How good were Drury and Hyam in midfield last night, they've completely upstaged three higher profile players.
And if we're going to play such fluent attacking football and just try outscore our opponents, then so be it, we may not need to worry about the defence until the summer and by then we'll have turned our season around and we'll be a more attractive prospect to players who want to come and play for our great club!

Pearcey boy you and ya chuckle brother mate and ya keeper please stay exactly where you are and stay with your sinking ship. We shew last night we can do without you. Yes we still need a rb and a central defender or two but we don't need you and yours.

Some people on here are a bit thick aren't they? Do you really think he's going to make a public announcement just after the closure of the transfer window saying that he doesn't want to be at his current club? That'd be pretty stupid, even for a footballer?

And anyway, I'm sure that those of you who think we don't want him because he doesn't want us would be equally upset if he went public that he wanted out as it would show disloyalty to his employers etc.

Just can't please some people on here!

Good to see a footballer showing some loyalty to a club and its fans, even if it hasn't worked out for us. That a load of supporters are calling them mugs and questioning their ambition for doing so, speaks volumes as to what's wrong with football and with ITFC tbh. In the same situation I'd hope our players were saying the same thing.

Getting him would have been a result, not getting him will hopefully not be damaging. We need strength we need depth, we need some results!

When he cant pay his mortgage or his missus credit card is refused at the shops or when he cant put petrol in his Range Rover i think that his loyalty will go out of the window very quickly.

@ shaunminx - Shew! lol! Hopefully last night will give Sonks and Smith the boost they need to grow and prosper. Balls to these Pompey players if they don't want to be here!

He is talking crap, as Portsmouth have no say in them leaving,

Ward and Henderson had been sold to us and they said no not going, so they are still at Portsmouth, so all this about being forced out is rubbish all he had to say was no to the contract that would be offered to him and he can stay at Portsmouth
