Bowyer Only Absentee for Coventry Trip
Bowyer Only Absentee for Coventry Trip
Thursday, 2nd Feb 2012 14:36

Midfielder Lee Bowyer is Town’s only absentee for Saturday’s trip to Coventry City. The 35-year-old is still suffering with his groin injury.

Manager Paul Jewell says that otherwise he has a full squad to choose from: “There’s just Lee Bowyer who is unavailable, everybody else is fit.”

The Blues boss is able to call on loan keeper Alex McCarthy after his one-match ban for his red card at Leeds, but says he was impressed with Arran Lee-Barrett’s performance in the 5-1 victory over West Ham: “He did very well the other night.”

Jewell, who is suffering with a cold, says he has decided which one of the pair will start between the sticks against the Sky Blues, but refused to be drawn on who would get the nod at this afternoon’s press conference: “I’m not going to tell you.”

I doubt he would get into the match day squad these days.

It's obviously ALB then. Jewell's gonna keep the same starting 11.

Looks like Bowyer should be on his way in the summer.

Was a never a disastrous signing, who knew he would be injured so much? He was fit as a fiddle for Brum in the premier league. When fit he's played some OK games but hasn't got the energy that the likes of Hyam, Drury and I would imagine Stevenson have. So with these three, Bullard and maybe Leadbitter (unlikely) I don't think Bowyer will be needed next season.

Anyone know how his extra year will be triggered - appearances I'm guessing? Hopefully it won't be triggered if we don't want it to.

Same team for Saturday, no doubt! Carson to replace Leadbitter on the bench though for a spark if we need it. Murphy doesn't deserve dropping at all. I hope we sign him in the summer.

He'll probably bring back Carson (not that he should have dropped him in the first place) or perhaps even Ellington! Or maybe send Hyam out on loan!
Just something to convince us he knows what he is doing.

Same again please....Thats the team and the scoreline !

Of course the same side. Changes on the bench should really only be the inclusion of Carson and Stevenson although realistically it'll be Stevenson for Leadbitter.

McCarthy can do one! If he's going to be that erratic then there's no place in any side for a keeper like that!

I would be furious if he changed anything (injury exception). Like against Leeds when he dropped Carson. We may well have our core 11 there, and should only look at dropping players through injury or bans. If it aint broke, don't fix it!

Change Carson for Leadbitter and Stevenson for Bullard and it will be a good bench

Garv, why would Leadbitter be considered even a possibility. Haven't you noticed how much better we are if the central midfielders can;
1. run
2. tackle
3. pass
4. head
5. shoot

Leadbitter doesn't do any of the above!
I presume, as you have mentioned him as a possibility, that you assume that the manager will have alienated Carson sufficiently for him to be plying his trade elsewhere?

Don't play McCarthy! He's an absolute liability! And he doesn't care! Let him rot on the bench for getting sent off on purpose!

Wouldn't mind seeing Carson in for Murphy though, otherwise we can kiss Carson goodbye from the sounds of things...

If Jewell puts drops ALB I will personally travel down to PR and give him the biggest wedgie of his life!!

I'm sorry but what a ridiculous comment.mccarthy may not have played well thus far but to say he got sent off on purpose is ignorant tripe.

OldClactonBlue I was only talking about central midfielders, wasn't talking about Carson or anyone else.

I meant Leadbitter as a possibility in that IF he signs a contract he will be with us next season, that doesn't mean "I hope he signs a contract because with him our midfield looks so much better".

oh well, as long as Hyam, Drury and Martin are fit..

Can't see any changes to the starting XI to be honest, with the only threat being to ALB.

Midfield will all start again as Murphy probably had his best game for us, which means Carson is on the bench at best.

Can see Stevenson being in the 18 and being involved in the matchday squad, but not making the final 16 purely due to not having played since December.

I'd have Carson for Leadbitter on the bench, but that's the only change. I think Bullard is worth having on the bench due to what he can create out of nothing.

Bowyer isn't one for the future. Saying that he has played better recently though. When he's back maybe start playing him in the last 20 mins of matches when his energy levels are at max.
Don't mind if his 2nd year is triggered. It never hurts having experience like Bowyers/Bullards to pass down to the youngsters. Where else are they meant to learn from? Chris Hutchings?
Bowyer is way better than the Human Crab.

For goodness sake PJ don't change anything. The Tuesday team proved they could do it against the best this division has to offer they surely deserve the opportunity to prove it wasn't a fluke.

Don't think were missing him tbh, dont play him anyway bcos dont wonna trigger the clause which offers him another year at the same money, he's too old/expensive.

No loss there then with Bowyer and hope he doesn't play the Leeds fan goalkeeper and sticks with ALB
