Reserves Beat Orient
Reserves Beat Orient
Tuesday, 7th Feb 2012 15:31

Cormac Burke, Damien Delaney, Nathan Ellington and Jack Marriott were the scorers as a Town reserves side beat Leyton Orient 4-1 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Playford Road this afternoon.

New signing Ryan Stevenson made his first appearance for a Town team in a side which also included Jimmy Bullard and loan keeper Alex McCarthy.

Burke put the Blues in front from close range, then Delaney headed in the second before the break. The O’s pulled on back shortly after the restart but Ellington converted Burke’s cross and sub Marriott added the final goal three minutes from the end.

Reserves: McCarthy, Peters, Ainsley, Delaney, Whight, Carson, Leadbitter, Bullard, Burke, Stevenson, Ellington.

Personally think Delaney would be better with Sonko at the moment, Smith is growing and learning but Delaney has a little more experience and he and Sonko may form a partnership (or maybe not!)

Very strong side with a big wage bill

Nathan Ellingtons finally found his level then banging them in against Leyton Orient reserves! Wonder how much that reserve team are taking home in wages this week?

There are two things I like about this:

1 - The back four is set up as a direct set of replacements for the first 11.

2 - tge formation is the same system as the first 11 so reserves have a chance to directly dislodge first 11 members. This is how it should be. Players knowing their position and directly competing!!

Stevenson play upfront?

Still think Peters is worth having on the bench as a winger, NOT A RIGHT BACK!

But I guess with Carson much further ahead in the pecking order and the obvious need for a central player on the bench Jamie isn't going to get a look in.

Any idea of how Stevenson played and did he play the full 90 etc??

so ellington's found his standard now then?

In all seriousness though what is the point of only playing reserve friendlies once in a while? there should be a proper reserve league structure put in place, as throughout the season whenever a player has had to come in to replace another, they often haven't been to pace or been lacking in match fitness which could be down to lack of reserve games.

@garv I disagree! Peters is a quality right back and would prove class and consistentcy close to cresswell if given the chance!!!anyone is better than Edwards there!

Dave, Peters is not a quailty RB, he is a headless chicken who could pick his nose more effectively than he could pick a pass.
He has a bit of pace so gets labelled a winger but we have much better options on the wing so reserves is his level until he is released when his contracts runs out, if he was quality he would get played or he would have been sold.

I think we should have three subs rather than seven, therefore releasing the other 2 or 4 to play for the reserves. The reserves league should be either the reverse of the main fixture, ie this Saturday would be Boro Res v Town Res or, weather provided, played as 1pm Kick Offs before the first team game or played at noon kick offs at grounds which must be either within 10 miles or 30 minutes reasonable travel of the first team game, so perhaps Whitton Utd or Ipswich Wanderes could stage the lunch time games (or indeed the training ground) before the main event.....
