Bowyer Only Absentee for Boro Clash
Bowyer Only Absentee for Boro Clash
Thursday, 9th Feb 2012 13:56

Midfielder Lee Bowyer is Town’s only injury absentee for Saturday’s home game against Middlesbrough. The 35-year-old is back in training after his groin injury but is not yet ready to return to the squad.

Manager Paul Jewell said: “It’s been a difficult week training with the weather, but I’m sure we’re not unique in that. Lee’s had three or four days’ training so far this week.

“He’ll probably need another week training with the first team before he can be considered but other than Lee, everyone else is 100%.”

Jewell says Saturday will probably come a bit too early for new signing Ryan Stevenson, who played 70 minutes for the reserves on Tuesday, his first game since his last match for Hearts on December 17th.

I would rate his performances as sometimes good (propping up a poor midfield) but mostly adequate. Patently the vigour has gone somewhat but still believe he has a roll to play. Much prefer him than Leadbitter anyday. Not sure what's happening with Carson in that he's perhaps not in the bench cos he won't sign his contract or he won't sign his contract cos he's not on the bench/playing. Nevertheless another game with no changes would I think do everyone a world of good

More like pointless Manager Jas. Now that i would agree on. Bowyer hasn't been that bad but Jewell?? Absolutely clueless !Did Clegg and ME not look at his last job at Derby. Most employers would!!
Looking at the table there are so many average teams up there and this was our year to really have a chance with a great squad except we had Jewell in charge. He spent more than most (2nd biggest spenders in the Summer) and yet delivered a lot less than expected.Lets not forget we were in the top 4 favourites from bookies to go up this season and where are we? Staying up probably yes but way short of expectations and not good enough..
Yes will be singing Saturday but what a crap season with a hapless manager when we should have been pushing for promotion..
Lets get through this season and show him the door.Jewell Out.

Why should we have been pushing for promotion, having been brilliantly average for 3 years previously?

Tractastic you need to get your facts right, 2nd biggest spenders in the summer? Wrong. Leicester, West Ham and Brighton all spent more than us and that's just off the top of my head.

I agree this season would have been a good season to really make a challenge with only West Ham the only obvious favourites at the start of the season but we had no god given right to be up there. Who knows what PJ's aspirations and predictions for the season were?

No real surprise, doubt he would start anyway.

Agree must keep same team after 2 straight wins, i think Lee has done a good job for us when he has played certainly earned his money, unlike Jimmy Bullard who after all the hype of last season has been a big let down, it is time he stopped clowning around get his head down and become the player he was.

@Garv
Talk sport (i think Adrian Durham) said a couple of weeks back that we were the 2nd largest spenders in the summer. This may or may not be correct but we were certainly in the top 4 or 5 and this coupled with some of the big money signings Keane made surely means we should have expected more this year.
The bookies certainly thought so and they are the experts aren't they?

Of course no one has a 'god given right' to promotion but with the money ME has spent, a great stadium, superb training facilities and a loyal and enthusiastic fanbase surely we should without question be looking at challenging for the play offs at least.

The missing link to success for ITFC recently has been the manager.Jim was a great great player but management unfortunately didn't work out and since then we've had two of the worst managers i can remember. As much as its easy (and it is)to blame Clegg at the end of the day the manager chooses the players and the tactics and its down to him to get the best out of his players. The manager is arguably the most important person outside the owner of the club and if he is not doing a good job the club suffers as it has done recently.Look at the difference to a club when you get a good manager managing the same players.i.e Martin O'Neill.

Call me naive, living in the past or even deluded but i believe that this club belongs either in the Premiership or the top half of the Championship and if PJ's aspirations are any different he shouldn't have been given the job.
Having said that I don't think its PJ's aspirations that is the problem.More like his ability as a football manager.Nice bloke etc but I just don't think he's good enough.

Lets hope its third time lucky for ME and Clegg and then we can all be positive about getting back into the Premiership.
Until then 3 points on Saturday would do very nicely.COYB.
