Town Keeper Linked With Premier Trio
Town Keeper Linked With Premier Trio
Friday, 10th Feb 2012 08:54

Town’s second-year Academy keeper Conor O’Donnell is being eyed by Premier League trio Stoke, Blackburn and Bolton, according to one of this morning’s tabloids.

Irish U17 international O’Donnell joined the Blues from his local club Buncrana Hearts in the summer of 2010.

A regular for Town's U18s this season, the 18-year-old is yet to feature in a first-team squad, although his Christmas break was cancelled so he could stay behind as cover over the festive period with Richard Wright and Cody Cropper both injured.

2 of those clubs will probably not be Prem teams next year. We will all say he should stay to give him the best chance of first team football and development- a big sack of cash for him and his agent may persuade him otherwise.

Always makes you feel good when it seems we have some good youngsters coming through- especially after 2 wins

Perhaps he should be on the bench regularly now !

if he's that highly rated for goodness sake send McCarthy back to Reading and put him on the bench for a few games.

Agree with village blue. Also he should have been given a chance with the reserves during the week instead of mccarthy

Agree with village_blue. We are just helping to develop other clubs younger players at the expense of ours

Proof if ever we needed it that our academy must stay at the highest level possible under FA rules.

When ME took over he wasn't famed for assest stripping and whilst I certainly don't think he will; there are juicy planning consents to be gained on the old sports fields that ITFC owns in Rushmere St Andrew.

If we are to survive long term as a football club we need this academy YESTERDAY and for ever!!!!

We do a lot of talking that we should be building for the future using our Academy players .Conner should be kept to progress through the system behind Cody Cropper,We would then have two Keepers who have had the best training and are both internationals of distinction. This goes part the way of rebuilding Ipswich back to being a great team once again. That's if money greedy agents do not have their way. But if a big offer comes along who know's what might happen?

RE:_ telitasiseeit

Here's a radical idea.

Charge agents an admission pass to watch our academy.

They get annual memebership in retrun for a look at the best talent in the region and we get a cut on any players they then sign up.

Beat them at their own game!!!!

I am not sure where all this agent rubbish comes from oh i know PJ brings it up constantly but he didnt mind sending his agent in to get him a good deal before he joined did he. Truth is we treat youth players poorly offer rubbish contracts and when some one else comes in with a better offer they are free to walk if you want to hang on to them treat them like they are wanted. Aside from the money play them in reserve games as it stands they cant get in because our reserve team is full of overpaid pensioners pretending to earn their extortionate wage. Get a new manager in who values youth and will develop them it will never happen under PJ and good luck to the boy if he does get a good offer elsewhere

What does PJ say about him?
I get the impression that youngsters only get a go under him when he has very little alternative. And even if they do well (e.g.Carson) he still looks to get the old guys back in at the first opportunity.

Cropper is a very good young keeper
And although I knew nothing about this lad,he sounds promising
Yet we have got McCarthy on loan who in my eyes has potential but is no were near were he should be yet(people may say I haven't given him a chance though)
And jewell wants a young keeper in the summer

Send McCarthy back and put one of these lads on the bench( I know that cropper is injured at the moment)

If its the same kid that was in goal when the U18's played Burnley (pretty sure it was) he isn't ready for 1st team football - none of them were to be honest.

Any new's on Cody Cropper.should be well on the way to recovery. Then will need to get match fit,and then let him go onto the bench.I have seen him play and is very good.Need's a chance to make his name in the first team. But need's to be match fit. A great future prospect for Ipswich F.C COYB

Also Conner whom I have seen playing on many occasions is also a very good up and coming Keeper. Cropper and Conner trained together in the Academy set up and were excellent. Cody moving over from the under 18s side, and into the so called reserves who do not get enough games. Conner then moved into the under 18s and has done well. Two very good up and coming keepers for Towns future.
