Town Announce New Boro Prices
Town Announce New Boro Prices
Monday, 13th Feb 2012 16:16

Adult fans who bought matchday tickets for Saturday’s abandoned game against Middlesbrough will now be able to attend the restaged match on Tuesday 27th March for £5, £7.50 and £10, the club has announced.

Town had cut Saturday’s prices by 25% - adult tickets were priced at £20, £25 and £30 - and the same price discount will be in place for the rearranged game.

Supporters who attended the weekend game will be able to buy tickets for £5, £7.50 or £10, subject to proof of purchase for the original match.

Chief executive Simon Clegg said: “It was very frustrating for all concerned that Saturday’s game ended the way it did but as a club we could not have done any more to ensure the game went ahead.

“Extreme temperatures of minus 13 were recorded at the ground and while our groundstaff did an amazing job to get the pitch playable, the referee felt that the conditions had deteriorated enough in those 37 minutes of play to make his decision.

“We were obviously particularly disappointed for the supporters of both clubs and after the game I made it clear from the outset that we would heavily discount prices for the rearranged fixture and review the situation today — and I have done that.

“It’s the club’s policy — in line with the vast majority of Premier League and Championship clubs - that as the game was abandoned before half-time we would set a 50% discount, but on this occasion we have reduced prices significantly beyond that.

“No one who was at the game on Saturday will have to pay more than £10 to watch the rearranged match and for the vast majority it will be £7.50 or £5.

“I realise that we can’t please every supporter but it has to be recognised that there are significant costs to hosting a football match, regardless of how long it lasts.

“We employ 400 additional staff on matchday for example, who all have to be paid, plus there are costs for catering, medical, match officials and plenty more.

“Hopefully the vast majority of supporters who were here on Saturday will be back at Portman Road on March 27th — with the weather a bit warmer this time!”

The Football League has confirmed that it strictly ensures that every club has a publicly-stated policy regarding ticket refunds or other arrangements for abandoned matches — Town’s tickets include mention of the 50% referred to by Clegg - although with clubs having the freedom to determine that policy.

Town will announce sales priorities and dates in the weeks to come.

My first reaction was charge a nominal couple of quid to those who can & want to make it to the rearranged game to establish which seats can be resold thereby avoiding a half empty stadium . Obviously Clegg & co were thinking along the same lines but made the extra charge. I make a round trip of nearly 200 miles but stayed over in a hotel because of weather problems. I'm not really sure I should expect a refund for that though

"“I realise that we can't please every supporter but it has to be recognised that there are significant costs to hosting a football match, regardless of how long it lasts. "

Given that there may only be a couple of thousand or less who buy tickets, which will raise around 10 or 20 thousand is this really going to meet those 'significant costs' ? Has Clegg not considered that the club is already 'up' by a few thousand quid through the extra tickets sold at the original discount price.

If he is prepared to cause so much bad feeling over such a relatively small amount, he is either even more out of touch and clueless than we thought or (and) we are in far more perilous state moneywise than we are being told.

Either case doesn't bode well for the future. Are we now a penniless club rub run by a clueless CEO ?

Seems fair enough to me;so now lets get on with the VERY important task of getting a loanee right centre back asap.Still also think need a right back so that Carlos' talents can be used further up the pitch.Hope PJ can retain his services despite age as seems similar to Ryan Giggs.

Why don't all the moaners on here just be quiet? If you don't want to give ME any more of your money - then don't. No-one is forcing you to go; there is no gun to your head; you have a choice...

I, along with many fans who live hundreds (or thousands) of miles away would love to be in your position. Being able to see our beloved team play live, and in person is a once in a blue moon opportunity.

I'm not saying be grateful - we all know that money is tight and most of our fans struggle to afford the cost these days. But if you can go - go! SG, ME and the staff at the ticketing office have provided you with an opportunity to go and see your team play at a vastly reduced rate - over 2 hours of football for cheaper than a meal with your missus tomorrow night!

PS. If anyone would want to swap...

Any fan on here complaining about ITFC asking people to buy a ticket for 5-10 quid is a moron! It must cost a hell of a lot to run a championship fixture and although it's frustrating to be asked to pay again it was the ref, not clegg who called the game off! Get real you bunch of moaning idiots!

Harry is 10 your age as you clearly have no idea that its a business ITFC are running and not a charity. I know its tough on everyone, we were all gutted trudging home after such a good start to the game too, but is a freak of nature, it happened and most of us have moved on. A decent enough jesture from the club, who at times do C*** up but also seem never to be able to win no matter what they try to do to apease some fans. on to the footie - any news of that CB we need so badly :-)

@keaneish

You want the FA to reimburse your travel costs? What planet are you on?

I've not been slow in criticising the crap 'administrators' of our club, and of the FA, but come on please some of the people on here just have to get real!

This is absoloute bull and Clegg knows it. I can think of plenty of examples where venues have done the right thing by the paying public and either given a full refund or free entry to the re-arranged date. Wembley Arena when Meat Loaf was taken ill in 2005 did it and they had no idea it was going to happen whereas it was obvious to any idiot or Clegg it the weather was only going to get worse. Also the Wolsey has done a similar thing when they had a technical issue midway through a production.
Clegg you are a clown and ME a fool for giving this clown a job.
Care about the fans - rubbish.

The reason people like me are angry is because they paid £20 to see 90mins of football, but due to a weak ref we couldn't. I don't think its fair that I should be held to ramsom to pay more money to see a game I have already paid for.

If I went to the cinema and the projector broke down half way throught the film should I pay again to come back and see it again??

What price will people pay who didn't go on Saturday but want to go to the rearranged match? I assume the original 25% discount?

Think it's a good gesture from the club and as good as they could do under the circumstances. Do feel they should try and get something from the FA or Football League for the referees incompetence .

Think Boro have made a gat gesture to their fans and well done to them to.

My concern still is that Clegg has no idea about Public Relations whatsoever and this could so easily have been avoided if he had chosen his words better on Saturday.

Let's move on and hope the powers that be channel all their efforts into getting some cover for our defence so when we have the match with Boro it's not a relegation battle for us!

COYB !

TARGET-PREM- "If I went to the cinema and the projector broke down half way throught the film should I pay again to come back and see it again??"

You absolute moron!!! When you go to the cinema they don't employ an extra 400 people to make sure you're film runs! They are going to have to employ police, stewards etc to make sure this game happens safely. You really have no idea so go away please.

Clegg is making mugs out of us and you lot just take it. I think football is the only place where this could happen. Imagine a weather damaged Theatre or Cinema not refunding tickets or not offering a free ticket to the performance of YOUR choice.

The worst thing is that the income from this massive PR failure is so small!

flashblue added 17:23 - Feb 13
blue beat you are thick. The club will incur these costs regardless of the minimal income received here from around 2,000 fans at most.

the As*@hole fans that keep calling Clegg say sorry

Doubt it some fans

Jas0999 as you are so unhappy with the club dont buy a season ticket next year and dont go and watch them as its very obvious it makes you very unhappy

Watch Man U world class players cost of tickets about the same as town always winning

Although I think this is a decent gesture, I think that it is put in to perspective that my £30 ticket is still gonna cost me an extra £10 which means it has cost me £40 to watch the same game.

It is not the fans fault that the game was called off, but Clegg still think that its OK that it should be the fans that pay for the staff, cattering etc.

This is just a penny pinching excerise that just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. I will attend the re-match as I feel that I am financially committed but I really think that Clegg and ITFC have missed a trick here.

There are bound to be a few more that didn't go Saturday that will attend the re-match paying full amount, those that took advantage of the reduced prices will feel as though they haven't had much of a deal here.
