Town Announce New Boro Prices
Town Announce New Boro Prices
Monday, 13th Feb 2012 16:16

Adult fans who bought matchday tickets for Saturday’s abandoned game against Middlesbrough will now be able to attend the restaged match on Tuesday 27th March for £5, £7.50 and £10, the club has announced.

Town had cut Saturday’s prices by 25% - adult tickets were priced at £20, £25 and £30 - and the same price discount will be in place for the rearranged game.

Supporters who attended the weekend game will be able to buy tickets for £5, £7.50 or £10, subject to proof of purchase for the original match.

Chief executive Simon Clegg said: “It was very frustrating for all concerned that Saturday’s game ended the way it did but as a club we could not have done any more to ensure the game went ahead.

“Extreme temperatures of minus 13 were recorded at the ground and while our groundstaff did an amazing job to get the pitch playable, the referee felt that the conditions had deteriorated enough in those 37 minutes of play to make his decision.

“We were obviously particularly disappointed for the supporters of both clubs and after the game I made it clear from the outset that we would heavily discount prices for the rearranged fixture and review the situation today — and I have done that.

“It’s the club’s policy — in line with the vast majority of Premier League and Championship clubs - that as the game was abandoned before half-time we would set a 50% discount, but on this occasion we have reduced prices significantly beyond that.

“No one who was at the game on Saturday will have to pay more than £10 to watch the rearranged match and for the vast majority it will be £7.50 or £5.

“I realise that we can’t please every supporter but it has to be recognised that there are significant costs to hosting a football match, regardless of how long it lasts.

“We employ 400 additional staff on matchday for example, who all have to be paid, plus there are costs for catering, medical, match officials and plenty more.

“Hopefully the vast majority of supporters who were here on Saturday will be back at Portman Road on March 27th — with the weather a bit warmer this time!”

The Football League has confirmed that it strictly ensures that every club has a publicly-stated policy regarding ticket refunds or other arrangements for abandoned matches — Town’s tickets include mention of the 50% referred to by Clegg - although with clubs having the freedom to determine that policy.

Town will announce sales priorities and dates in the weeks to come.

We can't ask for more. It was not the club's nor anyones fault that the ground was frozen. No matter what the enterprise, there are intrinsic risks which we must all share to enable the club to survive. Simon Clegg has made a decent enough response.
Let's all pack the ground for the replay.

Moaners out.

Pathetic. I can't get back to Ipswich midweek in time and I had friends from much further afield who can't either. So that's four tickets wasted. Trains are so expensive (not to mention unreliable) as to make a season ticket unviable else I would get one. This decision is a real slap in the face. Why not free (or at least a similar discount) for any home match?! Terrible PR again by the club. Have relations with the fans ever been so bad?

Jas and others like you, I am embarrassed at times to be associated with the same club as you. Jas and his ilk can find a negative in anything and purely make pointless and destructive comments at every opportunity; mostly without a clue what they are talking about. Most of the rest of you are part-time supporters who had already got in cheap but that is still not enough. Personally, we can do without you. Fortunately, the majority of the loyal season ticket holders (Jas aside of course) have remained silent, despite the fact that we get no offers of any description for our up-front money.

Harry, oh dear clearly Weatherspoons are having very hard times if they are now serving up BUGERS, are they allowed to do such a thing? i was trying to put perspective onto it, to explain what really would get more bums on seats (as many think giving away free tickets next time will bring in long term support which it absolutely wont if we go on to lose due to poor defence) however having a winning team will def encourage bums on seats..... so i feel my point was very valid.

if 5000 payed through the turnstiles on sat and all 5000 return for the rearranged match, those gate receipts for the rearranged game will generate between 25 and 50 grand, so lets use the middle figure of 37,500, peanuts when you compare to what it cost to get rid of priskin and ingimarson and to pay our expensive bench warmers, as i say good pr opportunity missed for what is not a lot of money and will cost more in alienation and lost future fans, this regime are ruining this club, wait till they announce cat 2 status for our youth academy. all you clegg supporters what will it take for you see, the clown is ruining the club?

what are some of you on about telling people to stop moaning! a lot of people including myself work very hard for paying for the tickets to see the game! and paying 20-30 quid is a lot of money and i expect to see the whole game it is a complete joke asking people to pay again even if it is only £10 thats a few hours hard work to some people! and its not just the ticket its the traveling there again! the club made money on food and in the shop etc so why not just give free tickets for the people who turned out in the cold would make fans happy and its fair youre driving people away!

Dont see a problem if honest. Would be happy to pay between £5 and £15 to watch the rearranged game.

At the end of the day there are a hard core band of supporters who only want to moan moan moan. Fortunately I think they are in the minority.

On Radio Suffolk this morning the expert analyser from Saturday said that he was surprised the game even started, because he went on the pitch and the ground was very hard prior to kick-off, he also said it was clear the ground was only going to get worse. It's lucky for Town that the game started because they would have had to let everyone in for free if it had been postponed prior to kick off..... Yes very lucky that?

"For those saying this will not bring in much revenue for the club, you are far off, if the club pays £100 pp to those employed at the club (highly unlikely) this would cost the club £40,000, so any money they can recoup through the extra fees would surely be beneficial"

eh ?

How on earth does how much the club pays it's staff on the day determine how many fans will turn up ?

We are as good as £70m in debt. I doubt that figure will be altered by any noticable amount by penny pinching measures such as these. When you actually deducted the VAT and loss of drinks/food sales then I doubt the amount raised will be much above £10,000.

Compare that to the loss of say 20 season ticket holders plus their drinks/food over a season and you begin to realise how little damage needs to be caused wipe out any gains from this charge.

It is not about words on the back of the tickets either. It is about common sense. About the fans feeling they are part of the club not gullible mugs who did not read the small print.

To paraphrase Churchill

'never before has so much damage been caused by so few, to so many over so little'

im not one 2 moan actually but i think its a complete joke how you pay for a game and dont see it and you would be happy to pay agai well all the fool you! if you went to the cinema and the screen broke would you expect to pay again to watch it?

common sense says when the air bubble was removed from the pitch the ground temp would fall however it cost alot of people a lot of money for nothing not even like you could go shopping instead the town centre is poor . I suspect this will cost the club dearly in the long run as people wont bother in future no matter how cheap the tickets are it is shame

While it doesnt effect me as a ST holder i do understand why people are highly p****d off with having to pay again . Having to pay again to watch a match that never happened first time around must feel like a real kick in the nuts for those concerned . Yes i understand the clubs point of view about outgoing costs too but couldnt we cover that with our unspent connor kitty ? This whole promotion about cheap tickets and filling the ground has now been a complete waste of time as i dont see many returning for the replay based on the clubs decision to charge again ...... ps Still think the game should of been played out on saturday .

My mate just txt me this and its so true!!!

What a piss take. Every person at that game had purchased a ticket to watch a football match that would last at least 90 minutes, by purchasing that ticket you have entered into a contract with the club, a fair exchange is not theft. The supporters kept their side of the deal by handing money over, the club failed to deliver. If you went to asda and purchased a chicken, got home and found only two wings and a leg, asda would have to give you the remainder of the chicken and they would not expect you to pay anymore money! In fact, along with am apology they'd probably throw in a packet of stuffing to apease a customer.

Yep ... Fair compromise ... sounds reasonable to me.

Can't blame the club for the weather ... 2 abandoned matches in 13 years? ... There are important things to worry about.

Its not just this situation in isolation is it? the fact of the matter is this, yes football is a business but a unique business in many ways. we need a football supporter someone who understands our mentality. Clegg is clueless , just seen him on tv in a GREEN jumper, that for me says volumes about the bloke and his lack of understanding about football, couldnt imagine a norwich spokesperson doing an interview in blue, could you? especially when trying to sort out a very tricky PR announcement, he has to go and now

One or two people on here have mentioned cricket as a comparison in respect of their returns policy. The policy there although it does vary from club to club is that in the event of rain stopping play if under 'x' number of overs are bowled then you get your money back but more are bowled and play doesnt resume, you loose your money. It the way it is and you don't see everyone having a go about that. Sure it's annoying but ITS THE WAY IT IS. The same applies to motor racing, tennis and many others. Yes I feel sorry for those who cannot afford it or cannot go the re-arranged date due to work but at least some good has come out of it. Jas, righty and his cronies who can only bitch about everything won't be turning up next year and I for one wont miss them. Anyway it's finished now get over it - nothing you whine about now is going to change anything.
More importantly where and when are we gong to find a cb ? Things look a little dire although I think Delaney and smith can do a job for a couple of games but not long term. Hate losing anytime - but tomorrow against THEM would be a disaster.
