Town Announce New Boro Prices
Town Announce New Boro Prices
Monday, 13th Feb 2012 16:16

Adult fans who bought matchday tickets for Saturday’s abandoned game against Middlesbrough will now be able to attend the restaged match on Tuesday 27th March for £5, £7.50 and £10, the club has announced.

Town had cut Saturday’s prices by 25% - adult tickets were priced at £20, £25 and £30 - and the same price discount will be in place for the rearranged game.

Supporters who attended the weekend game will be able to buy tickets for £5, £7.50 or £10, subject to proof of purchase for the original match.

Chief executive Simon Clegg said: “It was very frustrating for all concerned that Saturday’s game ended the way it did but as a club we could not have done any more to ensure the game went ahead.

“Extreme temperatures of minus 13 were recorded at the ground and while our groundstaff did an amazing job to get the pitch playable, the referee felt that the conditions had deteriorated enough in those 37 minutes of play to make his decision.

“We were obviously particularly disappointed for the supporters of both clubs and after the game I made it clear from the outset that we would heavily discount prices for the rearranged fixture and review the situation today — and I have done that.

“It’s the club’s policy — in line with the vast majority of Premier League and Championship clubs - that as the game was abandoned before half-time we would set a 50% discount, but on this occasion we have reduced prices significantly beyond that.

“No one who was at the game on Saturday will have to pay more than £10 to watch the rearranged match and for the vast majority it will be £7.50 or £5.

“I realise that we can’t please every supporter but it has to be recognised that there are significant costs to hosting a football match, regardless of how long it lasts.

“We employ 400 additional staff on matchday for example, who all have to be paid, plus there are costs for catering, medical, match officials and plenty more.

“Hopefully the vast majority of supporters who were here on Saturday will be back at Portman Road on March 27th — with the weather a bit warmer this time!”

The Football League has confirmed that it strictly ensures that every club has a publicly-stated policy regarding ticket refunds or other arrangements for abandoned matches — Town’s tickets include mention of the 50% referred to by Clegg - although with clubs having the freedom to determine that policy.

Town will announce sales priorities and dates in the weeks to come.

On the back of every ticket, it states that - if a match is abandoned after it kicks off - the price for the rematch is 50% of the original price. The club has gone beyond their own T&Cs with what they are actually doing. So what's the problem? Perhaps anyone who can prove they are functionally illiterate can make a case for a bigger discount, but that presumably rules out the majority of people able to post on this board. Oh.

My comment - erudite as always - wasn't directed at Harry10, whose comments are both valid and relevant.

Anyone stating "look at the small print" should listen to Saturday's You & Yours on Radio 4's listen again... (Obviously linhdi's station of choice no doubt, being the most intelligent person on here). There are lots of issues here - some winners and some losers, but its like saying to Evra - just put up with racism because most black players weren't racially abused. Each case will be different and there will always be exceptions. I'll guarantee I'll get a full refund and have the law on my side... I'll let you know. (And no, I can't go on the 27th... not without losing even more money).

The club can afford to do anything here - they simply have chosen not to. Quoting the guidelines and offering what they have - great, but they could do more and need to for the fans who cannot take up this so called offer. And, in my case, they will do.

And no - I'm not moaning - but so what if I was... I'm a customer as well as a fan. Football needs to realise that. Classic case of divide and conquer...

Len_Brennan - Don't diss Meat Loaf he's a legend.

slowerball - do I understad your post correctly that you intend to seek and expect to get a full refund on Saturday's ticket? I wish you well and look forward to a report on the result, win or lose.

The fact is that there are not enough season ticket holders at PR. If there were, then upsetting a couple of thousand fans (although it would still be out of order) would not matter so much.

Why do season ticket holders get free entry to the game and the pay on the day fans do not. This is outrageous. The reason the club did the deal is to get more people in the ground, and make no mistake, get these people to spend more in the future. If every one of these people paying on the day were given the replay free and were entertained enough to justify coming again, the club would raise extra revenue. To alienate the non season-ticket holders simply treats them with contempt and I wonder how many of these people will bother coming again this year?

The comment about catering staff wages is ludicrous. The catering staff are paid out of the profit of the purchases of the food and drink are they not? Are they suggesting that they will need to pay the staff then not open the kiosks?

The whole situation stinks. I bet 99% of you who are backing Clegg (who needs to go on a customer service course and his PR skills are abysmal) are season ticket holders who are not affected in any way by this debacle. If season ticket holders stood up to the club in support of these out of pocket supporters, then there may be more season tickets sold next year and you may even have someone sitting next to you and not an empty seat.

Fact - ITFC are not to blame for cancellation of the game.
Fact they do not have to refund tickets and give more than 50% discount off tickets -
HOWEVER why were they reducing ticket prices in the first place - because attendences are dwindling! - should have took a small loss on the chin, won back the faith of fans and looked forward to these people coming again and again.

P.S. It says at the bottom of each comment REPORT ABUSE. I believe pay on the day fans have been abused - Please report this abuse to the powers that be Phil

The club should refund all the tickets and start again with sales at the original promotional price. Nothing else will persuade me otherwise. It's a PR opportunity gone missing

I think the main fact that is being missed is that twice in the last 14 months the club's solution to stop matches being frozen off has failed. Clegg says we cannot afford six figure sums to rectify this - however we can afford to loan six figure sums in cash to new employees in order give to loan sharks!!! This club is so far from where it should be it is scary.......

Just been reading the EADT article about this which has a few Clegisms in there which just about sums him up. No idea about football and out of touch with the fans:

"I've come up with a ticket policy which will hopefully attract people who didn't attend the game on Saturday as well as those that did. The discounts are significant".

This is irrelevant, the previous game didnt complete so on the face of it, very poor value. I can assure you Clegg, you will not be attracting any more fans

“Let's also remember that this club did make a fairly unprecedented gesture early in the season when we laid on 13 coaches to take fans up to Blackpool after the result against Peterborough (7-1 away defeat). We have shown good will to fans this seasons.”

Do you want a medal for that Clegg? The supporters owe you for that do they? The Peterborough game was an utter discrace and you were lucky not to have to fork out for a smashed up players bus.

“We've got to make sure the pricing policy is competitive "

No, you are either an Ipswich supporter or you are not. You don't go and start watching another team just becuase it is cheaper to get in. It is all about finding a level which your own fans can afford.

"We're trying to run a sustainable business here.”

HAHAHAHAHAH

"The discounts are significant"

Really?

If I go to the re-arranged fixture I'm effectively paying full price to watch the a football match against Boro. Some discount eh?

Paying for transport to the stadium again, paying to park again, paying for food and drink again. I'm fine with this, but I shouldn't have to pay to get into the stadium again.

What a joke.
