Chopra Apologises to Cardiff Fans
Chopra Apologises to Cardiff Fans

Striker Michael Chopra apologised to Cardiff fans in case his goal celebration during the Blues’ 3-0 victory over the Bluebirds at Portman Road yesterday had offended them. The one-time Cardiff frontman had said he wouldn’t celebrate — as he hadn’t earlier in the season when he scored in the fixture in Wales — but said emotion overtook him when he netted his fifth goal in four games and his 12th of the campaign.

Chopra tweeted last night: “Well, another win, another three points, four wins on the bounce now. Great team effort today so pleased I scored. The reason I celebrated was my emotions took over my head. Sorry if I've upset some Cardiff fans.”

The Blues striker added that he was surprised by his old club’s direct approach at Portman Road: “Very strange how a Cardiff team can just play so many long balls when you have a player like [Peter Whittingham] in your team that makes things happen.”

The 28-year-old, who has targeted 20 goals for the season, is now the joint-third top scorer in the division and is looking to get ahead of Southampton’s Rickie Lambert (16) and Leeds frontman Ross McCormack (15) as he helps the Blues into a top six finish he still believes is possible: “Anyway buzzing, another goal to add to my tally 12 this season might as well go for the golden boot now! #play-offs?”

A number of other Town players have added their thoughts on yesterday’s game on Twitter, central defender Tommy Smith amongst them: “Four on the bounce! Another great shift put in by all the lads and the fans were quality yet again! And a clean sheet as well to top it off!”

Full-back Aaron Cresswell, like Chopra, is also eyeing a late play-off charge: “Great display and win again! Well done boys! #itfc #playoffs?”

Keeper Arran Lee-Barrett added: “Three points today. There's a real buzz in the squad, playing with belief and confidence. The fans are creating such an atmosphere!”

Former Cardiff loanee Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was off out to celebrate the victory against his old club: “The feeling I have after today is great, time to have a good night with my boys.”

Jas, I find myself agreeing with your 1st and 3rd paragraphs, but your insistence on putting this improvement all down to MEs visit is laughable. Just give PJ some credit, even if it did take a while (and remember you supported keane for his full 18 months so you should have afforded the same to PJ).

Re Cardiffs hoof tactics - maybe they saw some earlier games where a hoof causes chaos in our ranks and thought it would work again.

itfcjc - grow up and just be thankful you have not experienced difficulties in your life. Support our players don't make fun of them.

Jas to be fair hyham got his chance in the FA cup and was woeful.... in his defence so was the whole team though. For whatever reason he has come back in at least Jewell unlike Keane is happy to be proven wrong and has kept Hyam in the team, Mr keane would have put leadboots back in as soon as available. PJ has made some massive mistakes and I agree not sorting CB and GK is one, but when players do well they are rewarded by being given a chance, I give you our most improved player Martin, some disagree with his treatment but ultimately we can all see the result, playing his best football ever with a wicked grin on his face from beginning to end. All anyone asks on here of you Jas is to give a bit of credit where it is due, do that and your respect rating will go up tenfold.

luggs52, I care what goes on off the pitch only because in some cases it greatly affects what happens on the pitch.

What a good time this is for MC, and well done to him.

It was only a few weeks ago that some on here were calling for Chops to be shipped out - funny old world!
Great to see Chops starting to put his problems behind him (keep it up Chops - one day at a time:) ), great to see Lee Martin responding to PJ banishing him earlier in the year and I'm amazed that JET is now so motivated he made a tackle!
I just want to see Town play well and not apologise for my team. Didn't the Cobbold's tell Sir Bobby to enjoy the game for the game not for the result. Winning is good but if you take the Cobbold's attitude you'll start winning.
Good of Chops to apologise to Cardiff supporters but even better for Town supporters to see some passion in the side.

Ok Solmeio . let me put it this way. As a person who looks after a large group of people at work as I do of course people have problems outside work and you tend to look out for them when they affect there work. But for me you deal with them privately . Then help them as much as you can to get over these problems . We forget that players are individuals just like the rest of us and do have problems in there private lives .Marriages fail etc etc , I think the clib has dealt with it ok as far as I am concerned . The most important thing as far as I am concerned is he dealing with it getting on with his life and scoring goals again .
