Cresswell Settled in Suffolk
Cresswell Settled in Suffolk
Wednesday, 22nd Feb 2012 10:55

Left-back Aaron Cresswell says he’s happy and settled in Suffolk having moved into his first house earlier this week. Boss Paul Jewell revealed that the summer signing from Tranmere was saving for his first property late last year.

The 22-year-old told the club site: "I've just got myself a house down here and everything is sorted on that front.

“It was a bit daunting for me when I first moved down here in the summer but I'm settled in Ipswich and want to commit to the area.

"Things are going really well for me, both on and off the pitch, and feel at home here. There's no doubting that I'm enjoying my football here at Ipswich and long may it continue.

"We've been doing well recently and picked up some great results, but we need to make sure we keep this run going."

Cresswell extended his initial Town contract until 2015 in October with an option for a further season, having made a huge impression in the first few months after his move from Prenton Park.

The Liverpudlian cost the Blues a tribunal-set fee of £240,000 rising to £520,000 after various milestone clauses.

100k of that fee is dependent on promotion which isn't going to happen anytime soon so the with all the other add ons the most we will be paying for him is 400k, and that's absolutely cracking business for a player of his quality.

Surely the 'overpriced' comments MUST be following inside knowledge about the he spent on his house!! Amazing business for anything less than £1m. Although they are completely different players, Cresswell has far more potential to progress in the game than Connor Wickham...

I was born in Liverpool and for the best part of twenty years lived there so I guess I am entitled to put my twopenny worth in. I like the people but given a choice between Ipswich and Liverpool I think Cressie has made the right choice.

Pessimistic. I think you said it all being a scouser and preferring Suffolk.

This thread should have no negativity attached to it at all and any one posting negative comments on cresswell, should get a grip, afterall he is a young lad , yet still for me probably our most consistent performer. Glad he has committed and bought a house... Coyb

Actually, I was born in Ipswich, I have been to Anfield but not Liverpool itself so I have no idea what the shops are like there.

Just clarifying my earlier point.

Excellent footballing fullback in the Ipswich tradition. Zero pace though. Cresswell vs a speed merchant like Aaron Lennon would not be pretty. Long may his form continue, but would be nice to have left-back competition in the wings.

Excellent potential young signing, and just like Mick Mills - got a shot on him too.

Mick Mills lives in Suffolk.

I wonder if some of you commenting on here actually go to games .... Cresswell may have had a few dodgy moments, but overall he has been a revalation. As an earlier poster said, cheer up you lot !!! some of you seem to expect Barcelona to walk out on to our pitch week in week out ... we are a Championship team, get over yourself !

Brendanh he's kept Kebe relatively quiet twice this season. I'd call him a speed merchant.

Why is there a need for a debate? He's young, he'll make a few mistakes, but in general he's been solid defensively and an attacking threat and you can't ask for much more than that. He's stuck to it when it must have been pretty tough for a young player — I guess he learned that from his time at Tranmere, but I bet he hasn't lost 7 on the trot before. I like the fact that he never seems to shirk a challenge, even when facing wily old campaigners …

petermorris: if you read my comment i have not said he was over priced or that he's been poor. I am merely stating that when he first got in the side he was electric, his crosses were superb and he looked like a real gem, recently however i feel his performances haven't been his best ( which is a fair enough comment, every player has a dip in form), his passing against Cardiff was poorer than usual. BUT i think he's been our most consistent performer and would be my number one choice for player of the season, with Martin, Chopra and Hyam, but as i said for pure consistency he stands alone.

But if you think he's been quality just because of the results, then your idiot, a result isn't the be all and end all, for me its about watching good football and if we get a result is a bonus.

His performances have been good and we all know that he's capable of being a lot better. Which is something we should encourage, he's got potential and i dont want him too be covered in cotton wool, i bet he thinks he can do better as well. He can do better and dang nabit he will do better!!!

So too summarise, he's a consistent performer, not overpriced, player of season, can do better and looking for him too push on . . . . . . . . . i don't know why I'm getting moaned at . . . . . .

Top signing and surely the only realistic candidate for PoTS. He has consistently performed and cannot believe some of the comments on here.
Do not recall a single post suggesting we need a new LB during the dark days this season, when practically every other position has been debated.
Surely another endorsement of his worth?

Obviously we are looking for a Premiership team in a couple of years.

Cresswell is a good signing, has been outstanding and is looking to settle in the area. Mature commitment that ALL should consider

There are still partially committed people, both management and players, who really need to examine their consciences.

Cresswell has the potential to be a top top player. He is young, hungry, & learning all the time, so to hear he is settled nicely in Suffolk is very welcoming news for ITFC. His progress hs been steady, he appears to be a level headed young man & i,m sure in time will prove to be a big asset for our club.

He is a top lad and player.

Welcome to Suffolk!! It's much better than Naafolk!

If only we had 11 Aaron Cresswells in are side from the beginning.

This debate started as a result of a couple of Ill judged but hugely provocative comments. The reality of the situation is that AC came as a medium to long term prospect but having been given his chance has made the LB position his own. His enthusiasm and energy have impressed everyone and, yes, he must be a popular contender for Player of the Season. But his actual performances have sometimes been distinctly average, as might be expected in a distinctly average team for most of the season.

For me he is still an outstanding long term prospect but that doesn't mean that if a better LB comes through his long term future is totally secure. We need to see gradual but steady improvement during each season for some time to come. For the moment though we should be glad we have him on our books.

Well done Aaron, great that you are at home in the area, as much as you are in the team...and now you have younger team mates to keep you company. At last we have a 'real Ipswich Team' to cheer, all players owned by us, apart from Murphy, who is now playing his best football and should be contracted asap?

As the name suggests I live in Liverpool, have done since 1994 so I too feel qualified to contribute. In my opinion it is a beautiful and vibrant city, it is steeped in history and has some amazing architecture, the dock front is an UNESCO world heritage site for example. The portrayal by the media of the city and its people in the past has been nothing short of scandalous at times and without foundation. Well worth a visit if you've never been though I appreciate its quite a trek from ipswich!
As for Creswell being overpriced? You're having a laugh! Creswell was a massive bargain... keep it up fella, youre doing Town proud :-)

In terms of raw value for money, the best signing we've made since Jon Walters. And both from the lower leagues; there's a lesson there...

Toxteth Blue..... There are some nice buildings etc, and Liverpool One has been a success, there is always an undercurrent of crime in the city and a dodgy scouser is never far away.

A fun city though.

The scousers wallow in the past quite a bit. The three graces and the albert dock are impressive, its surprising you can get a UNESCO badge for buildings built by the trade of slaves.

To be fair though, I enjoyed my time in Liverpool.
