Town Ban Racist Tweeter
Town Ban Racist Tweeter
Tuesday, 28th Feb 2012 16:52

Town have banned a supporter from this season's remaining matches both home and away for racially abusing a Brighton fan on Twitter.

The 17-year-old made the comments on Saturday after the Blues’ 3-0 defeat to the Seagulls and was subsequently interviewed by both the club and the police.

Town chief executive Simon Clegg told the club site: "There seems to have been a recent resurgence of homophobic and racist issues within football and as a club we are absolutely committed to supporting the Football Association and Football League in helping to stamp these out.

"Football is a game of passion both on the field and off it but we will not hesitate to take action against any individual associated with this club who is involved in inappropriate behaviour.

"Ipswich Town fans have an excellent reputation at home and away and I'm determined that the good name of the majority is protected."

Shortly after the offensive Tweet was was made, the account was removed.

Mattyboi, so in your mind those of us who don't go to games aren't allowed on here. What utter nonsense, I don't get to many games, that's because of my working commitments, I work every Saturday and mostly wouldn't be able to get over to Ipswich in time for an evening match, doesn't make me any less of a fan or give me any less right to comment on stories. If this little gobsh*** has been making overly offensive remarks then he deserves what he gets. But apparently I'm not allowed to say that.

No buryboy that aint what im saying i understand what ur saying about having to work etc am just saying that if u dont go to any matches y come on twtd just to stir up trouble . All im saying is i have read the comment that the town fan made and that some people do just go to football for the violence i was at the brighton game and there were people at the game and on the train shouting much more abusive comments . I dont agree with racisim at all . All violent and abusive so called fans should be banned

So in summary, you have no point whatsoever and are just rambling like a loon.

Glad we cleared that one up

Silly silly boy.

It's not like racism hasn't been in the press of late is it? What with Mr Terry (Due in court in July) and Mr Suarez being a guilty party.

Also there has been racial abuse to Stan Collymore and people got arrested and charged with that.

Hopefully this young chap will learn, and perhaps this will be a lesson o all fellow Town fans that the club are watching and waon't be taking this sort of stuff lightly.

This kid got lucky, by only getting banned until the end of the season. Some people may not be so lucky, like the Norwich fan that racially abused another fan on Twitter, he recieved a lifetime ban from Carrow Road.

Some of the comments on here are laughable, I don't know Phill or any of TWTD's producers personally, but to be providing such a professional website as they do, they are not naive or unintelligent to post a story which could compromise themselves, the club or website. Like Blue lady said, check the law, no laws have been breeched by publishing his name...
The fact that this young lad has been seen making racist comments is probably no reflection on him as a person but more of his upbringing that he thinks it's acceptable to make racist remarks. Afterall racism is merely ignorance. The lad made a mistake, but he'll learn from it hopefully and be a better person. if he loves the club like most on twtd do, then he'l be in the stadia after his ban, and enjoy a pleasant football experience.
It infuriates me however, that reading some of these posts that people who share a mutual love of Town are ripping hypothetical chunks out of each other on here.
whats done is done, everyone has an opinion, im sure many dont agree with what i'm saying now... no point creating a hostile environment on twtd and ruinign what should be an awesome site for sharing the love of our club.

I see my opinion was removed by someone who didn't like my criticism of the naming of the silly lad in question.
Hmmm I wonder how many on here are guilty of calling the ref a W****r or the linesman a C*** or a player a F** B****** from the terraces, all racist / abusive/foul and worthy of a banning order by todays double standards.
I am not defending the lad by any means but the term "people in glass houses " comes to mind.....

Any need to name and shame? No...
---------------------------------------

I'm afraid I'd have to agree. What he said was idiotic and if a guy in his 30s had said that then definitely name them.

But at 17??! Ok of course I didn't say stuff like this at that age, but I still did a lot of stupid things.

To those thicko's trying to find a defence angle' that he should not be named' for this nasty piece of work..it is obvious you are part of his circle and as such are part of the problem by defending him by blaming the media and not him. Get your house in order.

Arguably the worst post I've read on TWTD yet.

mattyboi .. your opinion is what ? That someone has committed a crime in the eyes of the law and the majority of sane people and done so in the public eye by posting himself on Twitter thus naming himself and you are upset that he is named on a report !!
You then attack supporters for stating this simple fact ,and criticise them for not attending games ,and before you start i have only missed two games the entire season .
People swear and have racist /homephobic chants at football matches that doesnt make it right but a crowd is not the same as individually being a racist in print on the internet .Time for small children to stop acting big ,grow up and accept responsibility for their actions ,well done the club

surco im not defending him at all. and i didnt attack anyone . i was just saying that at the brighton game i was there and heard a lot of comments both at the ground and on my journy back towards other fans . its a small majority of ppl doing this and there is no need for it . so am just saying they should all be banned .

unfortunately you will always get those sort of people in life mattyboi and i totally agree with you about banning them all . Football has changed dramatically over the last 20 years and is vastly improving i would never have taken my family to a game then ,but it will take time to eliminate the small minority you refer to and every step all clubs take to name and shame these idiots can only help ,by ignoring it increases the issue .
And trying to defend a person because he is young compared to a 30 year old is laughable , has he not been to school and recieved an education ?, does he not know right from wrong ? what age should we start punishing this behaviour ?
He is not a toddler

Yeah they should be banned as well mattyboi but its a lot harder to ban someone when there is no evidence. You heard them be racist so you are a witness but right now its your word against theirs, if you really had a problem with it you should've called it up with the conductor so there were more witnesses and they could take action. Now compare that to someone who writes an abuse message on Twitter with his name next to his racist tweet! Its a lot easier to prove something if its in writing and thats why he is banned not the others (in future if you hear racist remarks/chants you have to take action otherwise nothing will happen).

Mattboi, with regards to your comment, I don't come on here to stir up trouble, I was merely asking why shoulld I not be allowed (in your opinion) to voice my concerns/air my views about things that happen to my football club. If I could justify and had the time I would have a season ticket, no doubt about it. We all have opinions, you are entitled to yours (I don't agree with your view about my being on this forum) I'm not saying it's right or wrong. I'm not offended by it, I wont lose sleep over it but I believe I have as much right on here as you and obviously you see things differently. What we are on here though is that we're all Town fans, wanting the best for our club, not wanting negative stories like these coming out and obviously not wanting the association with racists and hooligans making our club like a throwback to the 70's
