Monday, 5th Mar 2012 18:19

Town duo Andy Drury and Tommy Smith have been named in this week’s Championship Team of the Week. The pair were amongst the Blues’ scorers in Saturday’s 3-0 home victory over Bristol City.

Also named in the weekly select XI is ex-Town keeper Kelvin Davis, who faces his old club for Southampton at St Mary’s on Tuesday.

Team of the Week: Kelvin Davis (Southampton), Lee Peltier (Leicester), Tommy Smith (Town), Anthony Gardner (Crystal Palace), George McCartney (West Ham), Garath McCleary (Nottingham Forest), Kevin Nolan (West Ham), Andy Drury (Town), Hal Robson-Kanu (Reading), Rickie Lambert (Southampton), Craig Davies (Barnsley).

Drury - well deserved. Assume Smith is in for his goal as frankly our entire back 5 had an afternoon off! Nonetheless Smith gave 100% and considering his travelling did very well.

Team of the week is such a load of balls. It's just made up of goalscorers regardless of how they played. George McCartney didn't do anything for West Ham against Cardiff except pop up with a goal.

Congrats to our 2 though, in this instance they did both play very well on Saturday. Keep up the good work boys.

After the week Smith's had, to come back and make the Team of the Week is hugely impressive and a testament to how important he now is for us.

As for Drury, what a signing he's proved to be. How about a bit more credit for PJ's abilities in the transfer market? Drury, JET, Chopra, Cresswell (and, let's face it, Martin was so far out of the picture when PJ turned up that he might as well have signed him too); this is arguably the best cluster of Ipswich signings since the Burley years. Royle, Magilton and even Keane all made some decent signings, but I don't think any of them made that many that quickly.

How often recently have we had one or two in their "team of the week"? Good to see out team is growing both in effectiveness and in reputation.

Clive_baker - oh yes it is because Kelvin Davis scored a belter at the weekend didn't he. Some people can be rewarded via team of the week just for a good showing and not always just for a goal.

Dozzells_bobblehat - Jas will always be negative in some capacity, just ignore it and it might go away.
