Reading Recall Keeper McCarthy
Reading Recall Keeper McCarthy
Wednesday, 28th Mar 2012 13:02

Reading have recalled keeper Alex McCarthy from his loan spell with the Blues. The 22-year-old, whose stay was expected to end on April 11th, will return to the Madejski Stadium tomorrow.

Chief executive Simon Clegg told the club site: "We had a request from Reading this morning and Alex will be going back there tomorrow."

McCarthy subsequently tweeted: "Thanks for all your messages really enjoyed my time at Ipswich, all the best rest of season."

Mikkel Andersen, the Royals' regular sub keeper while McCarthy has been out on loan at Town and Leeds, has a knee injury and could face time on the sidelines.

The England U21 international made 10 appearances for the Blues having signed on loan in January. The Guildford-born keeper's time at Portman Road started less than impressively with a red card at Leeds in his third game but his performances improved as he settled into the side.

Arran Lee-Barrett looks set to start against Barnsley at Portman Road on Saturday with Richard Wright on the bench.

US U20 international Cody Cropper, 19, is also available having made his first appearance for the U18s at the weekend after undergoing knee surgery in December.

Thanks for your effort. Poor alb must feel so second-best all the time

At least it will give ALB the long run he needs

What a waste of time that was. Hopefully this will spur us into looking for a new permanent keeper then.

Agree Sindre, I couldn't see that McCarthy was noticeably better than ALB, so why not give OUR keeper the experience rather than Reading's.

Give Towns own goal keepers a change. McCarthy did not impress me. As my 9 year old son said. Why does he always hold onto the ball for 1 minut.

NO MORE LOAN KEEPERS THANKS.

Dont forget as a loanee goalkeeper it would be difficult to get to know his defence in front of him..which cold explain his rather luke warm start. I think since he came back into the team recently he has not done too bad to be honest...made some good saves last night.

Would all owners of a pair of keepers gloves and boots, please report to the players entrance on Saturday for the signing of your loan contract.

Goalkeeping ability is not required, all we needs is someone to stay until the end of the season.

(It will be an X-Factor type queue!!!!)

1.It ill be great to see ALB restored to his rightful place
2.Gves Plug a chance to warm the bench once more
3.Or give Cody some good squad experience.
4.Cheerio Alex , and forget anything we told you about being a poor place kicker and quick ditribution to your full backs or even beyond!!!!!

Yes he improved as time went by and I suppose he needed to get used to the players in front of him. In the last few games McCarthy has improved discernably but is he that much better than our lcal lad?
I am delighted for Arran Lee-Barrett our "nearly man" and I hope this time he can convince all of us that he is worthy of a first team place. He has potential of this there is no doubt but every time he gets settled into the first team picture the mistakes start to haunt him.

really highlights the need for a perm settled no 1. Sorry ALB is NOT good enough. Plays one or two good games then it all goes wrong. i look forward to seeing who we bring him, hopefully the deal is all but done just awaiting end of season :-)

GOOD!!

he is bad at kicking has a poor first touch when the ball is passed back to him, and in ny eyes is no better than ALB

ALB should have been starting the whole time! a keep committed to us and who actually has a contract with us!

Good riddance. As others have said, what a waste of time. Another brainless Jewell deal.

ozzy committed cause he loves Ipswich or cause his options are extremely limited elsewhere?

No great loss, couldnt kick a football to save is life, and for a player who is 6ft 5 didnt command his area enough, if at all!!
Prefer ALB to be honest.

I think he should play RR in every game to the end of the season and see how he performs. ALB has had his chance.

Waste of time having him. Glad ALB is back for the rest of the season. He is an equal of McCarthy. Both not being anything like the best in the world.

RR is history and apart from a bench warmer is of no further use to ITFC

We seriously need to buy a keeper. It has to be our first signing of the summer. Then add the defenders we need to take us forward. Alb has done ok but must feel used.Cropper on the bench to get a feel of first team footie as RW wont be around next season. We are safe so experiment with squad players see if they are good enough.

putting Croper in behind a very poor defence would be a big mistake and could destroy his confidence imo.
