Delaney: McCarthy Will Be Missed
Delaney: McCarthy Will Be Missed
Friday, 30th Mar 2012 17:17

Ipswich defender Damien Delaney believes the recall by Reading of on-loan goalkeeper Alex McCarthy could not have come at a worse time.

Instead of clocking up his 11th appearance for Town at home to Barnsley tomorrow the England U21 cap will be on the bench for the Royals at West Ham in the Championship’s most crucial game of the day.

Manager Paul Jewell has confirmed that Arran Lee-Barrett will be recalled and Delaney said: “I think it will have an effect on the team but hopefully not too much.

“Arran has been out of the team for a while and it will take him a couple of games to get up to speed. It’s disappointing losing Alex because he was really starting to look nice and comfortable in behind me.

“He’s a big lad and he was coming for a lot of crosses. It doesn’t half make a huge difference when you’re a defender and your keeper is not just punching at corners but holding on to the ball. It’s a God-send.

“But while it’s a shame to see Alex depart I’m sure Arran will do a good job. When he’s come in he’s done okay because it’s not easy coming in behind different defensive partnerships. With the rest of the team being fairly settled at the moment I think that will help him.”

Damo have you not left a word out because I don't think McCarthy will be missed. For the size of him he was not commanding enough and no better than we have on the books already.

He won't be missed by me. Glad to see him gone. Developing anothers Clubs player who we compete against wasn't the smartest move in the first place.

lessons will be learned....
1) no more old duffers on high wages
2) no more goalkeepers on short term loans
3) no more letting good players leave for nowt

Not particularly disappointed to see him go. To be fair to him he was very impressive at Watford at set pieces of which he claimed most against some big players. But generally hasn't been a whole lot better than ALB. Not sure what Del boy is saying, for me be wasn't quick enough coming out when teams got in behind us (both pboro goals).

Damned with faint praise ... I bet ALB is thrilled with this contribution! Players should NEVER be allowed to talk to the media under any circumstances. That goes for most managers too, especially our own vacuous scouse moron.

...'Get up to speed'!!

You all train together week in week out and ALB has played with you already. He's hardly got lots of research to do or learn a new role has he!?

"It's disappointing losing Alex because he was really starting to look nice and comfortable in behind me". Bit of a double entendre Damo!

ALB should be more worries about how DD is going to play rather than the other way round.

Not fussed that AM has gone back, command of the area, kicking and speedy release of the ball were poor.

How on earth can a loanee - who started here by saying his future was at Reading - be missed? This was another poor signing from a manager who is guilty of not addressing the GK situation this season. Can only assume this spin is to take the pressure of PJ after he cocked this up big time. I just hope people on here will not be fooled - PJ has failed this season.
