Scotland Close to Signing New Deal
Scotland Close to Signing New Deal

Town boss Paul Jewell says striker Jason Scotland is close to agreeing a new deal with the Blues. Scotland’s existing contract, which is currently up at the end of June, includes a clause which would see it extended by a further season on the same wages if he makes two more league starts before the end of the campaign.

Jewell said: “I know he spoke with the owner and I’m just waiting to see him now and I think there’s progress.

“I can’t tell you anything definite but maybe on Monday we’ll be able to tell you, or even after the game on Saturday.”

The Town boss says that despite the existence of the clause, Scotland is still in consideration for his starting XI: “I think what’s been reported is not quite true. I said to Jason that I don’t want to get into a situation where I don’t play you because it will trigger that clause.

“I’ve been open with you guys [the press] and with him. I think, hopefully, he’s going to agree to waive [the clause].”

Jewell says he’s sought to address the situation before it became an issue: “It’s been ongoing for a while. I’ve been open and frank with Jason and in turn he’s done the same.

“He’s been terrific for us. We missed him last week at Watford because he can change the game, he can affect it, and he can also play from the start. He’s going to have a role to play, Jason.”

Scotland's new terms are likely to be an initial year on reduced wages plus the option of a second season.

Still has some goals in him and a bit of continuity will be nice. Happy enough about this.

I suppose it depends if we can get any better for the money really, could do worse...

...oh we already have, Ellington.

I think overall his appearances have warranted this. Good.

He's a really important player in the Championship.

Not sure he can tear-ip up for 9- minutes, but for 60 minutes he can be a real threat.

Delighted by the positive news.

Good news as he can do a job for us, However what about Murray surely he is the one for the bench next year, or are we going to loan him out next year and then run his contract down?

Good news is a good player who is strong and brings others into play, just need another striker to go with him and Chops. Chef Evans anyone?

Good news. Scotland has been wrongly criticised IMO. was it his fault that last season (when PJ arrived) he was played as an isolated striker? No. He's been good for us and deserves a new deal, albeit not on big money.

Jason has put some effort in when he plays, unlike Leadbitter (before he was in the shop window), certainly deserves another season. Shown what he can do, coming off the bench to score at Southampton.

He was overweight and a general lump last season, although in fairness still scored some goals, but he's come back this season and looked a different player.

Perfect squad player next season.

He's earned that this year, His workrate has been top notch, definitely a good option to have.

Credit to Jewell, under Jewels leadership he has lost weight and been a transformed player, like a few others we could mention. this is a totally positive story, a great attitude, willing to waive the clause, yet still some of you throw in negatives that are irrelevant to this story. When there is something to be negative about, trust me i will jump in with the rest of you....But for now 12 games two losses..Some of you will never get any enjoyment from following the town.

3-2 town , fancy scotland to score, will be chuffed if he stays....coyb
