Martin Keane to Make a Point to Old Boss
Martin Keane to Make a Point to Old Boss

Lee Martin believes he has made a point to former Town boss Roy Keane. Martin, a £1.6 million signing from Manchester United in 2009, initially failed to make an impact at Portman Road.

He made just nine Championship starts in his first season and was eventually loaned to Charlton for the whole of the 2010/11 campaign.

But when Keane was replaced by Paul Jewell in January last year Martin was immediately recalled from The Valley, where he netted three times in 25 first team appearances.

It hasn’t always been plain sailing under Jewell — the manager ran out of patience with the player’s poor disciplinary record early this season — but now Martin is revelling in his preferred withdrawn role after not being given a chance there by the previous man in charge.

Martin, 25, said: “I was playing in my favourite position for the United reserves when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the manager.

“After I signed for Ipswich Roy was probably moaning and saying ‘What have you given me here? He’s crap’. Ole spoke to him and told him ‘Play him in his best position and he’s actually quite good’, but he never did.

“It’s only since the gaffer came in last year that I’ve had a real chance to show what I can do. I prefer it in the middle but if I have to play wide I do it. Sometimes it’s about what is best for the team rather than the individual.”

I don't think Martin should worry about what Keane thinks....let's face it, if anyone in football thought he did anywhere near a good enough job at Ipswich, he'd have been back in a job by now. More of the same next year please Lee, and then the people who matter to your career will be happy...

Well RK knows better than those of us who post comments on here and looking at fool jewells decisions this year he deserved to follow the same fate as RK long ago. How he has managed to stay in a job is unbelievable and just shows how far we have fallen.

Does Martin write a column for the Sun? If not, he should do.
