Bullard: I've Got Something to Prove
Bullard: I've Got Something to Prove
Friday, 20th Apr 2012 20:19

Midfielder Jimmy Bullard says he’s got something to prove after a disappointing first full season with the Blues. The 33-year-old, Town’s Player of the Year when on loan in the second half of last season, is back in training after a sinus problem, which came soon after his two-week club suspension for being late to training after a night out in Newcastle.

Speaking in an interview in Saturday’s programme, in which he also explains the background to his recent medical issues, Bullard said: "I do feel as if I've got something to prove.

“This season hasn't worked out as I would have liked it to and I'm itching to get back in. I want to get out there and show everybody what I can do.

"I'm one of these players who hates not being involved and being out of the side has been tough to take. The boys have been flying since January so it's been hard to get back in, but fair play to them they are doing the business.

"The worse thing for me is watching rather than playing on a Saturday afternoon, it's a real killer."

An online electronic version of Saturday’s programme is available here as well as the paper version at the game.

Jimmy still has a part to play, no doubt.

Find the right role for him and he will shine and most on here will hate to admit it when it happens.

Jimmy, you have more than something to prove to Ipswich Town supporters...a desire to be fit for next season, hungry and ready to fight for a place. If you do that, then demonstrate the ability that made you player of the season when on loan from Hull City. YOU OWE US!

Bullard has looked a shadow of his former (pre-contract) self this season and hasn't been in the team for months. He then went out drinking and was suspended for it. For someone taking a big wage out of ITFC while the fans stuggle to find the money to pay for tickets, he certainly does have something to prove!

I think he still can do a job for us without doubt.. but hes let us all down this season. I tthink we should TRY and forgive and forget his stupid behaviour this year and give him another chance!:)

Has the quality and ability that most championship and some premiership players would kill for and that's why its been such a disappointment this season.
Agree with Garv and Sindre he definitely has a part to play and lets hope Jimmy has a superb next season. After all we all know that when he has got something to prove he can be spectacular.Come on Jimmy.COYB.

A real shame. But Jimmy has let us, PJ and himself down. Has been terrible and not worth anything like the salary he is supposed to be on. However, let's hope he rediscovers some form - although we should be looking at younger players than the likes of Bowyer, Ellington, Ingimarsson, Sonko, Bullard etc.

Time to put your money where your mouth is next season Jimmy...we know & you know that you have the ability and the talent to take this league by storm but you don't seem to help yourself.

As for getting the best out of him, maybe play him in that "free" role behind the striker?

I don't think so Lightingboy, I imagine he would spend most of his time chasing shadows as he obviously hasn't got the speed Martin has that allows him to close defenders down so well.

Let him dictate the play.

Hey Jimmy, if you feel that you havent earnt the wages youve been paid, how about sponsering a couple of accadamy sides next season?

I, for one, was impressed by Scotlands gesture re his contract extention, more of the same please underperformers!

It's a short career, Jimmy. Stay away from the bar, get your head down and make the most of what's left of it, or fade into obscurity.

Your call.

We know that Jimmy has the ability as he proved last season. This season has been wasted and let's hope that he gets his head down and is fully focused for next season. Being the dressing room personality (clown?) is ok so long as the other bits get done.
Come on Jimmy...you can do it!

I agree with Lightningboy. Playing him in front of the back four was a disaster - you're right Garv about him being too slow, so the midfield just passed around him and left him standing or (too often) went flying in and missed the tackle. Yes, he'd be a completely different player to Martin in 'the hole', but perhaps he would create more goals for Chops, and the others up front? Certainly worth a look in our last two games of the season, surely, or at the very least in pre-season.

Jas - i will say this for the last time as you always make the same point! Successful sides are about blends of youth and experience!! You need older more experienced heads in the side for different games for their ability to help younger players out. There is no-one more experienced in this division than Lee Bowyer and Jimmy Bullard to do this with the exception of people like Kevin Phillips.

Would you be saying the same thing if we had Kevin Phillips here over a couple of seasons?

Jimmy can still do the business. He's made more than his fair share of mistakes but if he can recapture the form he had last season, I think most town fans will find themselves able to forgive and forget.

the problem is bullard doesnt think and must be laughing all the to the bank every week for doing nothing and maybe we should change things in the club where they only get a percentage wage if the team or player is poor then you watch the improvement coz money means alot to these players

When he came on loan and played brilliantly I couldn't understand why he wasn't playing for Hull. Now I can see why. I don't understand what's going on in his head but we should get rid of him. A bit like Balliotelli he's good when he feels like it but just demands too much attention

does anyone really believe he can't play football because of something up his nose - umm, having read that back it makes me wonder
