Bullard Nearly Opted for Davids-Style Glasses
Bullard Nearly Opted for Davids-Style Glasses
Monday, 23rd Apr 2012 06:00

Town midfielder Jimmy Bullard has revealed that he has almost donned Edgar Davids-style glasses due to long-standing sinus and eyesight problems. Bullard returned to training last week having been off ill with a sinus infection.

The 33-year-old told Saturday’s Town match programme: “I’ve had a sinus infection for the last eight or nine days and had been feeling ill with it for about a week before that.

“I struggle with my sinuses anyway, I always have done and just couldn’t seem to get rid of it. I trained with it for a week or so and felt terrible so the doctor decided to have a look and told me I had a sinus infection. Hopefully I’m over the worst of it now and I’m back in training.”

Former Dutch international Edgar Davids famously wore protective goggles due to glaucoma and Bullard says a similar solution has been considered for his problems: “I’ve always suffered with migraines as well so I think that played a part with my sinuses and I was just having these really bad headaches and pains behind my nose.

“I’ve always had a problem with light too, which often causes me to squint a lot and hinders my sight a bit.

“There was a phase in the season where I nearly went down the Edgar Davids route and wore some special glasses!

“It’s at its worst when the sun’s out as the glare really affects my vision when out on the pitch and gives me these blinding headaches.

“I’ve got to sit down with the specialist and sort it out once and for all as it’s just getting worse the older I get.

“But listen, I don’t want to sit here moaning too much as I know there are much worse off people out there.”

The midfielder also apologised to fans for his recent night out in Newcastle with Michael Chopra which led to their late arrival at training and a two-week club suspension for the one-time England call-up: “That wasn’t the best thing we’ve ever done and we knew we’d made a mistake straight away.

“I went to see the gaffer the day after to apologise and I’d like to do the same to the fans because I didn’t act in the right way and I know that now.

“It was a silly thing and I won’t be repeating those actions. It was one of those things I’ve apologised for and I just want to leave it in the past now. I took the rap on the knuckles from the gaffer and the club and I’ve moved on from it.”

Didn't stop you and some of the others being out on the lash in Ipswich on Sat night did it! Josh Carson was especially hammered and having a massive Barney in the street with his girlfriend. What an example these stars set hey!

Getin, yep.......Carson was very lucky not to get arrested Saturday he was hammered and throwing things round in the street and apparantly warned to go home ...Going out having fun is one thing..... as for Bullard what an example he sets to the youngsters, only glasses he has are beer goggles!

Okay, so what's his excuse for not being available for evening matches?

I'd imgine this is real & is genuinely a problem for him, but it all sounds too much of an excuse that he wants to use now to deflect from his poor form & attitute for most of this season.
Grow up Jimmy. As a senior player with Premiership experience you should be setting a better example for the younger lads. Sounds like Carson especially could do with it, perhaps this is something PJ has had to deal with more than we are aware.

For those that keep saying why is Carson not on the bench, maybe this is why.

He had a crap game the last time he started and now acting like a standard teenager, lot of the problem is they are earning big money and dont know how to handle it.
I get the impression that he thinks he is someone who has made it and the contract situation i feel his agent and maybe he did as well thought he was better than he really is.

Time to grow up

What a clown bad example to other players, he has let everyone down us the supporters pay his big fat wages so he can go on the lash instead of doing what he should be doing on the pitch.
I do hope the club vets all new signings this summer we have had enough of signings who carry loads of baggage. Suffolk police must rub there hands every time Town sign a new player.

I knew Josh's starring appearance in the video would be his undoing. This is what can happen when the global spotlight shines on you.

We the fans need to get over this silly vendetta against Jimmy Bullard. He gets all this stick for something that happened at another club that we don't even know the details of, that and not the greatest season on the pitch.

Chopra has been forgiven?

Feel free Garv but others have every right to have a pop at him.
Whatever happend at Hull was serious enough for the club to basically sack him.
He then gets a second chance here and well pretty much " Same ol sh#t but a different day".

Anyone ever had a sinus infection? Well I have and it's very uncomfortable, no way can you run as the pounding vibrates up, looking down or bending over and the sinuses feel like they're about to explode, whilst there are things he has done that are not acceptable for a senior pro, I can sympathise with him on the sinus issue.

Agree Garv if Jimmy was on the pitch playing and playing well as he will probably do next season all will be forgiven and the man will be a hero again .Modern day support is far too fickle

I wonder if Brighton fans are calling for Poyets head 2 wins in 16 games, 7 games without a win including a 6-0 and a 6-1 hammering .Probably not as they can see a bigger picture

whilst i can understand the point about him doing well on the pitch, and you know me always positive about town, my view is if I had been off sick with an illness and i wasnt well enough to do the job i am paid for, my manager would not be too impressed about me being out on the lash saturday night, hardly indicative of looking after oneself to ensure a speedy return to work is it? If he was serious about playing last game of season surely the last thing he needed was another night out on the tiles?

blulady does drinking affect a sinus infection ? Is it ok for Cresswell to go out drinking now he is injured ?
This is the point Garv was making he hasnt performed this year so everyone is attacking him on unrelated points ,no one would give too hoots if he was drinking every night if he was in the team and playing well . And hasnt Jewell already stated Jimmy will have to wait until next season now ?
